Jasper (Rufus Sewell from The Legend of Zorro and A Knight’s Tale) has come to see Iris (Kate Winslet from Titanic and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) in Los Angeles. Iris asks him if he broke up with Sarah. He beats around the bush, but ends up saying that he did not, and that he is still marrying her. Iris is in shock. She gets angry and tells him it is over between them. Their relationship is toxic and twisted and she is tired of it.

What’s the “The Holiday” movie about?
Iris (Kate Winslet from Titanic and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) is in love with a man who is about to marry another woman. Amanda (Cameron Diaz from Charlie's Angels, The Mask and There’s Something About Mary) realizes that the man she is living with has been unfaithful.
One lives in England, the other in California. The two women, who have never met and live 600 miles from each other, come into contact on a home exchange website. Impulsively, they decide to swap homes for the holidays. Iris moves into Amanda's house in Los Angeles while Amanda stays at Iris, in the snow-covered English countryside.
Shortly after their arrival, the two women meet a man. Amanda falls for Graham (Jude Law from Sherlock Holmes, The Talented Mr. Ripley and Captain Marvel) as Iris meets Miles (Jack Black from School of Rock, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and King Kong).

Yep. And the jaspers of the world recognise the specialness, and want ppl like Iris in their life bc it makes them look good, bc they're the ones severely lacking in empathy and kindness. Most men do this with women actually, even male "friends" gain so much clout and perks from women, usually for free too. I hope all girls and women realise how much inherent worth and value they hold as early as possible and never let it go. And I don't mean it to sound condescending, it's a fact, in every single way. Especially in the market driven system men have created to benefit themselves.

I agree. Arthur is MUCH more worthy of her attention than this vile arisro-brat. She asked this guy to give her space and let her get over loving him, because he is engaged to be married to someone else, and rather than respecting both her wishes and his fiance, he totally disregards Iris's desire to be free of him and FOLLOWS HER to Los Angeles to try and win her back....only he manipulates her. He wants to have his cake (or fiance) and eat it, as well, by wanting Iris's heart, as well as his fiance's. Luckily, beautiful Iris was smart enough to recognize this vile cad for what he is, and she chose to leave him and support Arthur in realizing his dream. I am SO PROUD of her, that she finally has the courage and gumption to tell this fool off and shatter this toxic hold he had over her and I could also feel the pure unvarnished joy that she felt in this moment when she realized her own worth and threw him out on his ass and went to Arthur...whose friendship with her is adorable and sweet and I think he is the one who showed Iris that she is a beautiful, special woman who is worthy of love and respect.

I love the friendship between Iris and Arthur in this movie. He gives her an invaluable gift: He restores her sense of self worth which empowers her to finally kick Jasper to the curb. I love Arthur's speech to Iris: "In the movies, we have leading ladies, and we have the best friend. You, I can tell, are leading lady. But for some reason, you're behaving like the best friend." What a great metaphor!

Unfortunately there are an unlimited amount of Jaspers' all over the world. Jasper is not clueless or confused. Jasper is a narcissist. He's not, never has been in love with Iris. He keeps Iris at arms length & lingers in her life because he enjoys having her fawn all over him. I guarantee Jasper didn't fly to LA solely for Iris. He's probably there on a business trip & decided to pop up on Iris to "remind" her of her love for him🙄

There are million of stories about fail relationships and lot of people who can identify with Iris. I am part of it, I had a relationship with a narcissist. I felt I lost control of my will. This movie reminds of that experience but in a good way of how I got over that situation
