Mikael Rikfor is a good singer and a replacement for Allan Clarke, but couldn't give the sound that the Hollies had when Clarke had with them. Allan was the one that gave the Hollies their sound.

This is a rare performance & band line-up, Clark had just left the band for a solo career, this is what the band would of looked & sounded like without Clark. I think this film demonstrates just how each one could hold his own as a talent.

Allen Clarke was working on solo project at this time at the time. He didn’t sing on the album that produced Long Cool Woman and Long Dark road. He rejoined the band later in 1973. I remember seeing this performance in 1973 on ABC’s “In Concert” and was blown away (still am) at their harmonies. To me Tony Hicks (guitarist, banjo, lead and backup vocals) is just as important to the Hollies unique sound.

@@chriskroll4166 If I were their manager, I would expect them to listen to my advice. That's what managers are for. Actually, they were doing exactly what I suggest. Terry and Tony sang "Long Cool Woman" and the other tracks Alan sang lead on, leaving Michael Rikfors to sing the tracks from the two albums they recorded with him. It didn't last long, as Alan Clarke returned to the group when his solo career didn't pan out.

I agree ! However, I have seen the recent Hollies line up about 4 years ago. They did a good job as with Tony Hicks and Bobby Elliot as they only original members. I enjoyed the show with the understanding this was about as good as it was going to get under the current circumstances.

JosieAnn, I’ve been a Hollies fan for 3 years, and I prefer their music during their Clarke, Hicks, and Nash years. Clarke, Hicks, and Sylvester, not so much, except for maybe 5 songs those being, “He Ain’t Heavy”, “Gasoline Alley Bred”, “Long Cool Woman”, “The Air That I Breathe”, and “Amnesty”

7:02 anyone else notice Mikael’s guitar strap comes off at the start of Bus Stop? I don’t think he ever gets it back on. He did a great job singing, though. It’s also great hearing Tony sing this much. Without Allan, it misses a lot of the energy (energy that Bobby’s drumming in particular calls for) but they’re all good singers. Listen to the original tracks from Romany and Out On The Road. Downriver in particular is proof that Mikael is a fantastic singer in his own right.

You can tell they have lost their mojo without Harold (allan) to keep them tight! Love the vocals of tony & terry but Mikael is flat. Back in Adelaide au being 14 with a B&W 26in Stromberg Carlson T.V. i saw nothing of this and had no idea what they looked like. At least the audience seemed to appreciate them enough to get their moneys worth.
