The Hollies are a British pop/rock group best known for their pioneering and distinctive three-part vocal harmony style. The Hollies became one of the leading British groups of the 1960s (231 weeks on the UK singles charts during the 1960s, the 9th highest of any artist of the decade) and into the mid 1970s. It was formed by Allan Clarke and Graham Nash in 1962 as a Merseybeat-type music group in Manchester, although some of the band members came from towns north of there. Graham Nash left the group in 1968 to form the supergroup Crosby, Stills & Nash.
They enjoyed considerable popularity in many countries (at least 60 singles or EPs and 26 albums charting somewhere in the world, spanning over five decades), although they did not achieve major US chart success until 1966 with "Bus Stop". The Hollies had over 30 charting singles on the UK Singles Chart, and 22 on the Billboard Hot 100, with major hits on both sides of the Atlantic that included "Just One Look", "Look Through Any Window", "I Can't Let Go", "Bus Stop", "Stop Stop Stop", "On a Carousel", "Carrie Anne", "Jennifer Eccles", and later "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother", "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress", and "The Air That I Breathe".
They are one of the few British groups of the early 1960s, along with the Rolling Stones, that have never disbanded and continue to record and perform. In recognition of their achievements, the Hollies were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.

The Hollies' record producer was Ron Richards who was the right hand man of George Martin at Abbey Road, so perhaps the similarity in style is not altogether surprising.

The Hollies also had Buddy Holly/The Everly Brothers as influences so maybe that say so much. Both bands did understand the same from their influencers so they did sound a like.

I first heard this on the British Top 20 in Germany back in the spring of 1969 as well as saw it performed on BEAT CLUB. Was amazed how The Hollies still sounded the same, even without Graham Nash. And here the group thought Graham Nash's leaving meant the end of The Hollies.

I can't make it if you leave me. I'm sorry Suzanne. Believe me. I was wrong. And I knew I was all along. Forgive me. I still love you more than ever. I'm sorry Suzanne forever Hurting you. You know I never wanted to. I'm truly sorry, Suzanne. I could never ever justify. All the tears I've made you cry. But I do regret it, My suzanne. You gotta believe me. I was looking round for someone new. What a foolish thing to do. All the time I knew it. Heaven knows what made me do it. Girl. If you would only take me back again. Things would be so different then what I wouldn't give for one more chance to live for Suzanne "Sorry Suzanne" by The Hollies

One of the best bands that came out of the British Invasion and I'm gonna say it. The Hollies and Gerry and the Pacemakers were better than the Beatles. Hands down Allan and Gerry were far better vocalists than any of the Beatles and nobody could play a guitar like Tony. Absolutely Love the Hollies. There music is timeless.
@starwood213

I adore both the Hollies and Gerry and the Pacemakers, beautiful songs and sound. However I can't put them before the Beatles who were unique in terms of inventiveness, excitement and sheer output. It is amazing though that these 3 brilliant groups came out of Merseyside/Lancashire at the same time. Gerry's my favourite singer though. Adorable.
