Gotta say, Pat, you're one of my favorites to watch for tying demonstrations. I'm going to fill my box with these.

Pure Gold advice: Running water over those flies before even thinking about trim jobs. I find it rarely necessary to trim these flies. Thanks, Pat! Great video!

Great video! One thing I would change (and I do that for my pike flies) is to taper the ends of the flash strands prior to tying it in so you have a variety of flash lengths. That really adds to the swimming movement while retrieving the fly but also in the sink phase at a pause. You give a lot and detailed how-to tips and tricks. Well done! 👏👏👏

Great video. I don’t even tie my own flies and I watched the whole thing. I’ve never used one of these flies for smallmouth, and am wondering if throwing one about the size you tied (5”-6”) would be practical on a 6wt rod with a heavy bass taper line?
@karllarson56124 жыл бұрын
7 or 8 weight would probably be better

damn my idea of sparse was definitely flawed lol. Going to use 50% less now. No wonder I was getting a mean flair. Hard to see that by reading Pop's book. Thanks for the video. Love the color. I was actually looking up shad colors for the upcoming season. Can you do a video on Pop's Bulkhead technique. The trimming it is what gets me. I always ruin it. haha.
@Madriveroutfitters7 жыл бұрын
Thanks a ton for the input and suggestion! We'll definitely pass the Bulkhead idea on to the guys and the trimming bit, haha. Maybe they'll have a few good techniques for it! We've got a nice Deceiver pattern coming soon, so stay tuned.
@REZlostboyz7 жыл бұрын
Mad River Outfitters all my white ties are picture perfect. Stuck on the yellow and blue. I just cut them out bc it was a fail. Those two ties need the heaviest bucktail? The blue was giving me trouble bc of the hook eye. Couldn’t get the fibers to move around the shank evenly. Did you tie like a 1/8 or 1/16 off the hook eye?
@Madriveroutfitters7 жыл бұрын
Talked with the guys about it, next week we’re going to shoot a Bulkhead Deceiver tutorial. Thanks for the suggestion!
@REZlostboyz7 жыл бұрын
Mad River Outfitters Right on!! Looking forward to it. I Finally nailed the hollows. The bulkhead is my next venture. You think a body tube head can work with a deceiver? I’ve seen some pretty nice flies that use body tubing as a bulkhead.
