I’ve had a AEMS for about a year and it’s been great. I replaced the crappy mount with a ADM. I’ve been a big EOTech guy for years but never ran one for home defense because of battery life. The AEMS gives me the reticle I’m used to with the battery life of a Aimpoint.

I really like that I never see a table top review on this channel. Your always outside in the weather.. awesome video as always, it was a hard choice between the aems and the 512, I got the 512 with orange dot because it was on sale lol

Your astigmatism is the opposite of mine. All these years I had people telling me to go with the Eotech for clarity. In my case the Eotech is so much worse to my eyes than this one. The Eotech isn't blurry, but it is grainy to the point of distraction. This one was sharp like how it looks in videos. I guess my eyes are a cheap date. (aside from the needing glasses part).

Nice review. I’m going to try a product Holosun in 2024. Always used Trij and Aimpoint but I’ve heard enough positive reviews to look past the country of manufacture and will give one a try.

I've been running one on my competition shotgun for 2 years and its been brilliant, its easily my favourite red-dot sight. However, i've been using the factory mount and this weekend the sight was literally ripped out of the mount under recoil. On examination the amount of material between the bolts and the bottom of the mount was crazily thin, I can only assume my mount was machined on a Friday afternoon! 2 of the bolts were gripping 0.73mm of material and the other 2 were only holding 0.34mm!! How its lasted nearly 2 years is beyond me. Anyway I have a new mount now with a decent amount of material for the bolts so i'm looking forward to getting it re-zeroed and back out on the range.

Interesting, I have developed an astigmatism as well, but mine has been the opposite of yours. I really like EOtechs but they look like a giant firework exploding, I have found the AEMS, for me, significantly more crisp.

Eotechs are blurry by design and so many people would tell you that you're shooting wrong until you realize they shoot their guns with one eye closed 🤣

Same. EOtech used to be my favorite, now they're pretty much unusable for me. Holosun still looks okay, but I'm leaning more into the 1x prisms. Getting older sucks lol

@@gordo608the 1x prism acss reticle is by far the clearest illuminated reticle available. It would be super sweet if they made an Eotech (or similar) size optic. That said. Holosuns dots are very clear compared to far more expensive brands. Aems is fantastic for the price.

The issue with the PA Cyclops Microprism is that the lens is very small and the eye relief is very short.

Update: The dot is pretty crisp & the glass is pretty clear. Haven’t gone shooting with it but I already don’t like the riser. Doesn’t feel too good. But the rest looks/feels nice

Adapter plate will get the AEMS as tall as the 2.26 unity height and work with the magnifying mount they sell or as low as it can for a shotgun ,ps90 or Ak side mounts. Any aimpoint t2 lower 1/3 mount for the unity height though. Kitbadger🔥🔥

That Griffin setup looks awesome! I got a couple of their MK2 lowers, and they're fantastic! I really want to try the recce5k! They always make cans with fantastic signature reduction and that is the most important thing in a can for me! My problem with my AEMS is the horrible emitter brightness showing from the front. I have a exps3 for my night gun and a 512c for my HD setup. The shake awake and battery is awesome. My buddies aems also has a weird parallax thing going on. Lastly, I have an astigmatism too, and the 512c gold is best for my eyes. Followed by the Eotech. The AEMS looked bad. I had no idea I would like the gold dot so much.

I found that a simple .4" riser under the mount puts the AEMS at a perfect 1.9". As a side benefit if the riser is long enough you can mount a magnifier on it also.

Having an astigmatism makes EOTECHS impossible to use in my experience. Mine is really bad even with my glasses + magnifier. The "donut" reticle is just a giant red blur

Good to know, as they are using the AEMS as the basis for the DRS-NV and DRS-TH (pro). Which were supposed to be available Q4 2023 and it looks like they aren't going to make it. :)

They’re already for sale, may be preorders though, not on holosuns site but on other places Also they are coming out with a medium and large aems for rifles as well as an Aems micro for pistols and an aems specific magnifier Also the bottom sensor thermal site is clearly more aems styled than the top sensor DRS series, possibly a prototype before the current, but maybe another fusion sight entirely for the aems line (total of four fusion sights that have been shown off) NV TH TH pro and TH bottom sensor

You’re the first person I’ve ever heard admit the green issue. Even tho green dots are a “different shade” of green compared to the background, they blend right in when you want to refine a shot on lower brightness

I also have astigmatism, the EOTECH reticle is the worst for me - it is unusable. But the AEMS is very clean for me. The Aimpoint Comp M5 is also very clean for me. I have talked to a lot of ppl with astigmatism and this is not uncommon. Different reticles give different results for different people - that is why it is so important for each individual person to actually look at the reticle, if possible, before making a decision.

I've been running one of these for a couple years now, (At least I think so the last few years have felt like a time compression) and I also have Eotech optics... While I will say the Eotech are a little better in terms of light transmission and clarity... They are also heavier and frankly,, I'm not sure they are "two times the cost" better.

Magnified dots don't turn into larger dots. They increase at the exact same rate as the image, exactly like a first focal plane scope. As for the eotech, i cant say how that works.

I think a lot of red-dots can get away with lesser dots as most Don't get magnified. Even a holographic will get magnified...physics, the hologram is a plate thing they have to make, which is harder (they say) to make, so eotech never changes reticles...

the eotech uses lasers that are bright enough to bloom to 1moa in human perception, in reality they are much much smaller than 1moa. When magnified, it still blooms to 1moa

That’s my understanding too. The dot is magnified but so is everything else so your 2 moa dot stays 2 moa since everything stays in proportion. Nevertheless, I’ve heard legit/knowledgeable people like Ivan make that claim, heard it stated on Brownells KZbin channel and EoTechs KZbin channel so I wish someone would bust the myth or validate the claim if it is indeed true.

My main issue with this optic is the battery tray requiring tools to remove its super annoying. You could lose the screws or the tray itself I hope they update that feature and I think this will be better.

Also wish they made a better factory mount it’s very ugly since it’s smaller on the bottom and bigger as you go up. For the prices I’d rather pay a bit more for a eotech or Romeo 8t on sale. If they could fix these things and maybe add a nvg button I think it would be worth the price for now I would pass unless is just a steal

I just bought an aems and have a problem. It seems my aems is stuck in auto mode. When indoors the brightness keeps auto adjusting to the point where it'll just shutboff when in a brightly lit area. Also shuts off when i put my hand over the solar panels. I've tried to put it into manual mode by holding the + for 3 seconds like the instructions say but it just turns it off. No blink to confirm it has changed modes. I can toggle through different reticles by holding the - button. But while holding the + button it only turns my dot on and off. If anyone else knows how to fix please help. Thank you

I find the green color theory that it's better than red actually fail. lets run a test, while driving look at office building signs and notice some being blue and some being red. red focuses better to the eye than blue, so would having better pickup of green by the eye make the dithering of the reticle on the sides picked up by the eye easier and therefor making it possibly slightly blurrier?

My AEMS was a pain to get sighted… anyone else run into that? Follow the arrow to move it 4 clicks left & the bullets would move in the opposite direction on paper targets. Finally got it sighted but FAWK!

Not in the same way but I do have a hard time seeing the chevron clearly. Like I know what it’s supposed to look like but it’s just a pointy blur to my eye

AMMJ makes the adapter plate to get the aems up to the 2.26 unity height using any lower 1/3 aimpoint mount. Also you can mount it onto shotguns.

He's talking about the magazine base plate with the ranger extension, not the mount/optic setup. A few companies make the extenders (Digger Tactical, Taran Tactical, etc.) But the ranger extension is probably a magpul product that fits onto one of the extenders base plates, OP. Of course, I'm speculating.

They make a mount but it’s at 1.93 height. But with the adapter plate you can push it up to 2.26 on a any 1/3 cowitness aimpoint mount.

The AEMS offers a combination of features that you, unfortunately, just can't find in any other optic from any other company. It's a very specific use case, obviously. But if the AEMS specifically is what someone wants, then it's worth it to buy this optic and a better mount. It's a pain that you have to add a better mount, obviously, but at least one is included.
