If I recall correctly, Windows 1.0 was only available for the DEC Rainbow 100. The first IBM PC version was 1.01. Regardless, very neat to see such an early copy of Windows complete in the box.

It's nice and really special that people sent that stuff into you but, Windows 1.01, or 1.03 boxed? That is freaking cool to find. Very rare to see. I've seen one on the past and someone was asking good money for it. Today, most I have with Windows 1.03 is a VM with it, just to play with time to time. I do think out of the reto OS, Windows 95/98 get the most use as there was plenty of cool games.....

I wish I could post pictures in the comments, but I just had a look at my boxed copy of Windows and it's a 1.0! It also has an 'International Version' sticker on it. I also have a copy of Microsoft Multiplan 2.0 and two copies of Microsoft Word 2.0. They all have the slip covers (is that considered 'boxed'?) and one of my copies of Word has all of its documentation still sealed.

Oh you really should do a video on Xenix, it's funny to think about how MS used to have the most popular UNIX on the market, I'm sure the two main reasons for ending support were 1) licensing costs to AT&T and 2) the popularity of MS-DOS w/ Windows Another video idea (or part of Xenix video) might be about Mariner (MS Linux) and/or SONiC (MS and Community supported MS Linux).

It's actually version 1.03 as the diskettes show. This seems to be the most common retail version. Mine came with some extra printer driver diskettes for some reason and I still have the perspex box that some of Microsoft's software came in. The next version 1.04 came in a box with completely redesigned artwork. That one seems less common for some reason and I'd love a copy myself. The donor is super generous as that is several $00s worth of software.

I won one of those digital cameras for Cub Scout popcorn sales as a kid. It never worked, made the “usb failed” sound when plugged into our then Windows XP computer. Even with the help of support we couldn’t get it to work. They sent a new one as a replacement, and it did the exact same thing: didn’t work, usb failed sound in XP. To this day it is the only USB device that has made the failed to connect sound.

The earliest version of Windows I used was 1.02TC which came with a Tulip PC (Dutch brand) at school. The PC only had 2 floppy drivers so to get it to work I setup a RAM disk and copied one floppy to it. It didn't have a mouse so I learned to use the keyboard shortcuts (still prefer to use Alt-F4 to this day) and I got to show it to my classmates by the teacher! That was back in... 1988 or 89 I guess? Obviously it didn't come on that nice box, the floppies sat in transparent sleeves in the ring bound computer manual.

3:57 i still have one of those sitting around. It was our first digital camera way back in 2000-2003. It was incredibly shitty, it outright refused to take a picture if it deemed that it would be a bit underexposed, it was bottom of the barrel web cam quality, but it made me a decent amount of money on online auction/classifieds sites, because back in those days advertisements with actual pictures included were very rare, and i was one of the first to sell stuff with a picture. Ours was branded Aiptek Pen Cam and not totally cheap, but 99 guilders or euro (idk anymore if we bought it before or after the introduction of the euro) was *the* cheapest digital camera out there at the time.

Wow, I didn't have that exact webcam, but I do now remember a lot of these cheap ones had a viewfinder to work as a 'regular' camera - the quality of which was insanely bad. You could have a better digital image by taking a regular film photograph, having it developed, and then scanning the print.

Hi Michael! The "Chick" CD ROMs are a digital doujinshi (indie magazine/comic) publication made by a manga artist called Odagami Mio. The one you're showing to the camera is Volume 6 of her coverage on what she's calling an overseas Comiket convention (Comiket is a doujinshi sales event kind of like anime cons overseas). The features on that disc are a trip report in Seattle (She went to Microsoft HQ and shows off stuff like the cafeteria menu inside, talks about the relationship between Microsoft and Starbucks, saw Bill Gates' personal parking lot, and also some general Seattle things like Bruce Lee's memorial), an interview with an American voice actor talking about how they went from fan dubs to being a professional VA, and info about one of her own manga. You probably know this vaguely, but the indie comics and magazine scene in Japan is huge. I find it especially really cool to see CD ROMs that artists made because it's just taking the extra mile.
