The Diawl Bach or wee devil. One of the most underestimated and versatile flies ever produced. It has soo many variations. Covering a wide spectrum of food items. From buzzer to pin fry. Many shop bought examples continue to be overdressed and chunky. Even these have their use as a reasonable match for, corixa, beetles, even snails. The peacock herl can be dyed, partly or completely stripped. The latter give it a light protective coat of resin or varnish. They continue to be one of my personal favourites right down to an #18 on rivers or on difficult days on stillwaters. #12 to #16 being my go to choice. Yes they are often used in the upper layers. Can also be effective in deep water DI 5 or 7 on a shorter leader near to a fab or booby. The trout sees the fab then takes the Diawl Bach.

The thing I don't understand is different wet flies and how or when to use them
@RhysFishes Жыл бұрын
Wet flies are generally fished subsurface (in comparison to dry flies). However wet flies are traditionally winged flies that are often used in rivers or on lochs / lakes for wild brown trout. If you google names like 'Peter ross, Alexandria, Wickhams fancy, Dunkeld, Mallard and Claret' - These are represent your typical historical wet fly. They will also work on stocked trout, but to some extent aren't as favourable as the more modern flies we tend to adopt on still waters today.
