....Just as the Five were celebrating their apparent acquittal, the judge asked if the prosecution if they would be prepared to bring a second case against the men. They were re-charged and faced a year-long battle against evidence which has since been criticised for being ‘untested, untestable, hearsay and prejudicial’. In the second trial a year later, the men were convicted of providing 'material support' to Hamas and in 2009, were sentenced to between 15 and 65 years in prison.
Nevertheless, the Five have lost all their subsequent appeals and their only remaining recourse would be a presidential pardon which has not so far been granted.

INjustice was done. These 5 honorable men and their families must finally be released and the politicization of and criminlization of their charitable (Zakat) efforts must be honored not punished. The best hope is for more and more Americans to recognize this Injustice and work for their release, pardons and cleared records. Charity/Zakat is a requirement of their faith and thru it they were doing God's will on earth. Blessings on them all.

As an American, I understand and even appreciate the government's unprecedented actions post-9/11. Likewise, I know these organizations are multi-layered and some are involved in more than charity and used for money laundering. But, also being an amateur historian familiar with the State of Israel and what was legitimately required to survive since 1948, I am aware of the extremes and inherent bias of Israeli Security Forces. While such extremes can and have been warranted, there have been many occasions where they have not and innocent people have been adversely affected which appears to be the case here. That said, while I'm sure it has been done for malicious purposes, hearing the government's reference to the organization's material support of feeding the masses, I couldn't help but think of a similar situation where a man of charity did the same using a few fish and loaves of bread and he too was persecuted.
