Yup. Empathy, intellect, thoughtfulness, scrupulous attention to the detail of any potential loophole that the defendant may have later tried to exploit to her own ends. Other people wind up being judged for things they did that were aggravated by their disadvantages in life and he takes all of that into account when passing sentence. The mark of a decent, compassionate man. She had none of those disadvantages, but all of the privileges. Even if she never gets it, he ensured that it was on the record. The crooked judge obstructed justice by forbidding the introduction of evidence that proved that proved Peter's motivations were only to protect election integrity and expose electoral fraud that actually took place! Following the 2020 election, a corrupt Colorado Secretary of State, Jena Griswold, ordered the erasure of Tabulator hard drives containing federal election data and forensic evidence. An honest clerk, Tina Peters, had her county's hard drives imaged before the erasure, and subsequent analysis the imaged drives by computer experts showed that data had been manipulated, and that new file folders had been created while voting was in progress. For exposing this fraud, she needed to be silenced by those complicit in the crime, and this trial was the result. It is no accident that the corrupt judge forbid Peters to enter into evidence what she had uncovered, preventing the jury from learning the truth about this sham prosecution.

Peters showed no remorse, which is how a judge balances justice with mercy. He was empathetic, but was not having this woman’s lies, line of bullshit, attacks on officers, and her insistence on interfering with an election. A person’s vote is sacred in our country. Although it is somewhat common to listen to a guilty (trial by jury) defendant, Judges don’t take lightly when they are lied to. He followed the sentencing guidelines and administered justice to the people of his State.
