This is a portion of a documentary I'm making about Vietnam Veterans and the long overdue welcome home celebrations that have been popping up around the nation. I still have interviews and stock footage to collect. Finished video will be an hour. In budget raising mode now.

I had the privilege to be one of the soldiers driving the buses on this day and what an honor it was. These men and women deserved this day and I am so very proud to call myself a Screaming Eagle. This is something they will never forget and neither will I. Thank you to all that have served.

This should have been you Dad. Thank you for your service Therone “ Tom” Tompkins. You went to hell and everyone hated you but you still went. It’s because of what happened to you that I was able to be shown love when I came home. You never asked for a thing but you were and are my hero. RIP Zoomie. Love, your son.

Service? They are oath breaking child murderers. Oath violators who took part in undeclared unconstitutional WAR CRimes. I just confronted a Vietnam war criminal in Walmart. He ran when called a "Baby Killing Oath Violator>" Cowardly POS .

MY vet, my husband, died from the effects of Agent Orange a bit over 2 years ago. He did'nt want to talk much about his service as a Green Beret, but he talked about what it was like coming home or having to be in uniform in public on leave. He always displayed his POW/MIA flag & the very rare occasions, near the end of his life, when someone thanked him for his service were the only times I ever saw him tear up. Thank them NOW, Agent Orange is decimating these men. Thank YOU for filming this

About 3 weeks ago my uncle & I attended a dinner for vets at a local jr high, there were several kids present, most were under the age of 12. It really made me proud and even cried when dozens of the kids hugged my uncle and thanked him for his service.Several kids asked him for his autograph and gave him pictures they drew for him along with a letter, many saying I LOVE you We MUST make sure EVERYDAY that when we see a Veteran to thank them and it would make their day if we did ANYTHING for them!

This is one of the coolest things i have seen in my 15 yrs of service, my father is a vietnam vet and when i see these guys being honored like this i see my father. I hate to think that back when these men and women came home they were mistreated, that breaks my heart. I have served in iraq and preparing for my first deployement to afghanistan and i have witnessed the good hearted people of our country come out and welcome us home and support us. I am so happy to see this video, thank you.

My Uncle Joe was armored Cav. And served 67-69 in Vietnam. He left for Vietnam bfrom Fort Campbell and returned to Fort Campbell. When he discharged out from there my father, his older brother, and my mother drove from Detroit MI to Fort Campbell to bring him home. They didn't want my Uncle to have to take the train or bus back by himself. Bith my uncle and my mom told me the same story at different times that my uncle thank my mom fir all the letters and care oackages she had sent him while he was in Vietnam and that that was what kept him sane. He had aldo asked her what he could do to pay her back fir her kindness. She told him that she didn't want anything exceot his respect and if he had ti get her something she asked fir a singke yellow rose on her birthday. Every birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas and mothers day my uncle brought her a single yellow rise in a vase with a red ribbin tied around the vase. Even after my parents divirced they all stayed friends. When my mother died if cancer August 28th, 2001 I was sent home on emegergency leave from Florida. On the last day of viewing at the funeral home my uncle had walked in with his then girlfriend, wearing a really nice suit( my uncle never wore suits) and was holding a vase with a single yellow rose in it with a red ribbon tied around the vase. He had shaved his beard off, but he kept his mustache and I didn't even recognize him. He wasnt sure what to do so I tild him that mom would be so happy that you're here. I told him it was okay to go see her laid out. He laid the rise in her casket with her. I won't swear by it but I'm almost sure that I saw my uncle cry for the first and only time in my life. I'm 3rd generation military and combat and I was raised to say thank you to the men and wimen whi have served thus country. So thank you to you and your family fir their service to this nation.

My uncle is a Vietnam Veteran,he served in the 1st Marines. It really makes me sad when he tells me how unappreciated he felt when he came home. My uncle was looking for a job after he came home and several businesses told him they don't hire people like him! The man recieved 4 purple hearts during his service. He was involved in the battle of huey and several other fights we know of. When he came home he was also called several of the common names you've heard.I wish he could have attended this

I left Fort Campbell on Nov. 1967 for Vietnam after being there a year in the 101st 504th Air Drop Supply unit. Even though I served my combat Infantry hitch in Vietnam with the 199th Light Infantry, the 101st was my first full assignment in my 3 year stint and my favorite assignment. Best bunch of people I have ever come across in my life. This video just shows the kind of camaraderie that unit held.

Watching this Video I couldn't help from crying,I placed myself with my fellow Vietnam Veterans in that hanger and was overwhelmed with the Honor they received. The only welcome i remember was from immediate family.Looking back, alot of us suffered from PTSD and had no place to turn to for help.It caused many future hardships especially with relationships. However,I was proud to be a U.S. Marine 1/9 3rdMarDiv Vietnam 1967-68 and had served my country in a War that never justified our presence from the start.

It’s great that they held this for all those Vietnam vets to show appreciation for what they did even if it was 34 years later, yet it still would not have made as big an impact if the welcome parade was held right when these soldiers returned in the early 1970s I bet that would have been much better when these guys were young instead of old men that had to live through the hurt decades later.
