My mom welcomed me home in ‘69. No one else. Not relatives, not friends, not coworkers and surely not strangers. In fact, NO ONE every asked me about Nam. It was like I was never there. Today, I rarely hear “Welcome Home” from anyone but other Nam Vets. I mainly hear that thank you for your service crap. That’s for the modern day Vets, not us.

Never realized the meaning of "thank you for your service" to a Vietnam Vet until now. Everytime I see a 'Nam Vet for now on, I'm definetly gonna say that. Welcome home soldier and thank you.

Dude, I came back in 69 and when we got to the San Francisco airport the protesters were out in force attacking the military bus our cab had pulled up behind. It was just awful and was so glad they ignored us. It was a long flight and I went into the first restroom and there was an enlisted marine throwing his uniform in the trash. My late wife of 35 years never asked me about Vietnam and I never told her I had been shot down once as it was just something people didn't talk about. I grew up in Missouri and immediately went to the VFW to join and they just ignored my application and I never did get in. Named my son after my flight school buddy who came back in a box. He would be 71, but died when he was 20. Bummer! Best of luck to all of us.

Participating in an undeclared UNCONSTITUTIONAL invasion and mass murder does NOT make someone a hero. It makes them a WAR CRIMINAL. ALL who participate in these evil actions are oath violators , traitors and cowards. They are also "Baby Killers" They were beaten by rice farmers and goat herding tribes who had NO Air force nor navy. They had their asses kicked by people defending their home.

Oath violators who took part in undeclared unconstitutional WAR CRimes. I just confronted a Vietnam war criminal in Walmart. He ran (hobbled away) when called a "Baby Killing Oath Violator>" Cowardly POS . Their actions soiled our nation's reputation and RESTRICTED our freedoms at home.

@@davidconrad7218 You sir are a coward and a despicable American. Someday you will say that to another Vietnam veteran, maybe even me, and I guarantee you that you will be picking yourself up off the floor. Blame the politicians if you want to, but not the veterans. They only did what they were told to do. USMC 1969-1971

Salute, honor and hug them. The youngest Vietnam vets will turn 70 this year and their numbers are dwindling. Many are in poor health with the effects of Agent Orange, malaria and PTSD.

I was in an airport in California upon returning home from Viet Nam with about 15-20 troops. We were a mixed group of infantry grunts, paratroopers and a few Marine infantry types. If anyone would have attempted to spit on us or deride us in any manner, we would have cleaned their clocks in a minute.

NBC you should remove the comments made by David Conrad what he is saying is unbelievably disrespectful and has utter contempt for facts.
