I think the flaws of all these low-tier characters is very interesting to me. I play Marisa so that will be interesting to watch you break her down. I think the rest of the stronger cast members need more clear flaws rather than being essentially perfect.

Honda is hard to win with especially in higher ranks, but he still fun for me, even though I am bad and slow. I hope to be good with him just like Storm Kubo and Hikaru are :D

Some of this info is wrong. PC HP at long distance always connects with DR st MP xx Sumo walk launcher, and raw sumo walk launcher works when closer. Honda also has a true blockstring chip setup after a buttslam, raw DR st MP > st HK (first hit) xx H Headbutt for almost two bars of chip, the st MP is so meaty that drive reversal doesn't work against the setup. Honda also has fwd HK that hits low, his neutral is good it's just unorthodox and is best playing reactionary while punishing people for trying to space their buttons with fwd HK.

DR 5MP can whiff in PC scenarios, but it's true that it covers more distance. I think it's the best solution if you are not sure if the next attack will connect. His 6HK has good range, yet it contains a horrible hurtbox and frames. That's why most Honda don't use it. In the end, his neutral is overly focused on waiting in a game where pressure is continuous. Still, I enjoy this character. I'd like to make a few videos about him and maybe take him as further as I can.

@@SiberianLab I've never seen DR st MP whiff in that scenario, are you delaying the button? I'll have to see if this is possible in training mode.

@@TelvanniWizardMoneyGang Are ya'll talking about in a punish counter crumple situation? Like s.hp punish counter? It used to whiff in season one but in 2 it should never whiff unless you're late, and if you ARE late and realize it in time you can do c.mp into launcher instead and it should work. It was one of his big season 2 buffs.

@@Carlosonebillion as far as I know we are, since PC means Punish Counter, as in you whiff punish something in neutral with standing heavy punch. And I checked, the only reason you can't connect with DR st. MP afterwards is if you're whiff punishing dahlsim , every sweep I checked I whiff punished at the max distance and still connected a DR st MP

I haven't delayed the buttons, but then again, I mostly use 5HP now. I think you do have a good point for 5MP in general. I'll do it more often!

Good video. I don't agree about whiff punishing or the over-centralization of headbutt to his gameplan though. S.hp has a pretty insane hitbox for whiff punishing. c.hp with the hands buff can be strong too. But the problem is his backwalk speed being too slow to effectively move in and out of range. I'm not any kind of amazing player (1600 mr range) but I use headbutt more as a jump scare than my primary neutral tool. Like a way to time my opponent. I mainly press buttons, not headbutt and buttslam, and I do NOT feel as though that's what's keeping me at lower MR. That's my execution being ass (hand issues) and needing better decision making. As far as ex punchwalk, I think you earn it with smart and selective headbutt useage. If I get a couple good headbutt counterhits it can often get my opponent to turtle long enough for me to use it to get the plus frames. If someone is REALLY turtling, empty ex punchwalk into command throw is way better than you'd think. It's fake as hell and has to be used very sparingly, but I've seen it work against 2000mr+ players. A big thing that is very important to the character is the counterhit s.mp into c.mp, and punish counter s.mp into s.mp. I fish for these a lot. At max range you can't get it, which sucks. I condition people not to press after s.mp by trying to be very aware of my range. At absolute max range, a light headbutt afterwards can often get a whiff punish on a lot of buttons. At far range, you can reliably hit them with a s.lp. No real reward but it stuffs their turn and discourages further pressing. At midrange of course c.lp is guaranteed. Lastly, I think EX headbutt is a uniquely strong defensive option against a lot of things. Obviously you have to be very careful and can't use it too much, but for a character like Ed it's a must. It only takes one successful one to slow your opponent down and let you press more ten frame mediums haha. If anyone read this far and plays Honda, here's a free combo I stole from Ryu Apprentice: Pretty optimal (no hands buff) no drive meter dp punish - medium hundred hands, crouch or stand light punch cancelled into clap, clap links into l.p m.p target combo into punch walk. around 30%.

His reliance on sumo headbutt can even be seen across his frames cause it's the only 10f he has with enough range to punish sweeps. 5HP has a good hitbox, but not range. That makes that button incredibly situational. Also, it's not an 8f for the neutral. He is a weird character in terms of neutral and punishing. You cannot 100% rely on anything he has. Still, he's very fun to play, but you play at the rhythm of the opponent.

@@SiberianLab That last paragraph is spot on. You really gotta have an awareness of all of his different tools depending on opponent and character matchup. Part of what makes him fun and also at times mad frustrating lol

Absolutely. I think (besides Gief), he's the most fun I've had. Probably, his weaknesses push me to play him. I'm also curious about his future.
