Mary I or Bloody Mary as she is more well known is famous for her brutal executions that took place during her reign as Queen of England. She is known for the burnings of Protestants across her realm in which those who refused to return back to Catholicism were executed in horrific fashion. These people who were burned at the stake were also killed in public to show everyone the Queen's power and also to put people off.
The Guernsey Martyrs were three members from the same family, one mother and two daughters who incurred the wrath of Bloody Mary and were executed in horrific fashion. Guillemine Gilbert and Perotine Massey were sisters, who lived with their mother Katherine Cawches. They were accused of stealing a goblet, however during this trial were proven innocent. However what was discovered is their Protestant faith and the fact they refused to attend Catholic Church services. This was a very serious crime and the women were found guilty of heresy, with the standard sentenced being death by burning.
Following this they were all brought to their place of execution and tied to stakes to be burned together in one huge fire. However Perotine Massey was pregnant, and the accounts of what happened next was completely horrific and horrifying with the execution being barbaric.
