There's a parallel between the Xenomorph species and the Weyland-Yutani company: both are powerful entities that try to survive/expand in an exploitative manner without regard of collateral damage. This egoic style of survival has been advantageous and rather normal for many animals and even companies today.

That's an extremely apt comparison

Ryan does do a good retrospective on movie franchises. A good review. The way he explains the xenomorph is fascinating. Talking about humans having a primal instinct. Finding out that another life form doesn't care about you. Other than what you can do for it. People can react the same way. To a shark. Look at the fear of COVID-19. What makes the alien franchise scary. Can also spark curiosity. That can lead to trouble sometimes. Great video.

A great short essay! One thing I think these movies are missing is otherworldly sounds. Something I can't take out of my head are the sounds of the frozen alien race in dead space 3. The haunting wind instrument that gives a lovecraftian atmosphere to their ruins.

For a different kind of in-game horror, "Ryley Robinson" of "Subnautica" is this century's "Space Janitor, Roger Wilco.";) I wonder if/when Hollyweird will get their incompetent paws on this Unknown Worlds IP and turn it into...?

The Xenomorph was the first horror monster that made you hope that it killed you. Because in most cases it won't, it'll haul you back to it's nest and keep you alive as a feedbag or a face hugger receptacle.

The face hugger ia the wirst part to me at least with the xenomorph i could probably spot it quicker and run and if i cant get away itll make my death quick but the face hugger it gives you that sense of hope that maybe you can get away you just need to last long enough for someone to hopefully get it out of you and boom your safe but in the end you always run out of time and that death is way worse than getting stabbed or bitten or melted with acid blood that a full grown xeno can do to you

I find xenomorphs quite attractive.

I like Romulus
@jamesabernethy78964 күн бұрын
I watched it at the cinema and genuinely had a great time watching it. It had flaws for sure but feel that much of those flaws had been lumbered onto it from the movies it was trying to fit around.
@hab02723 күн бұрын
@@blvckuno me too. I like the idea of trying to escape a familiar horrible situation just to be faced with an alien horror. (A worst-case scenario to an already risky operation) Also i particulary like the Andy character and the mystery of his altruism: Rain's needs/ the company's needs (but what about Andy's needs? Do androids have needs?)

Well isn't this perfect for Christmas xDD Great review!! I've only seen the original; it's one of the most visceral and horrifying movies I've ever seen. Of course, it still holds up amazingly well too! Also, the female Apostle's full form in Berserk was clearly inspired by the Xenomorph. Which is not only disturbing but very fitting imo

Great little presentation on the concepts behind the franchise. I'm a massive fan of the first three, Resurrection and Romulus a middling and the rest are unnecessary for me.

You like the 3rd movie? I really don’t like it.
@jamesabernethy78963 күн бұрын
@@InfamyOrDeath-__- I get why people speak highly of Alien and Aliens, I do too. All of them have a strong cast, a great sense of style and an amazing score. I don't think 3 is weak in any of these areas. I like that Ripley is in such a hostile environment. She needs to combat the Alien but needs to gain allies before that. I love how different all 3 movies are.
