I think the idea of the physical release for online games is so parents/grandparents have something other than a piece of cardboard with a code printed on it to give their kids. For example, I don't know if an elderly grandparent would understand how a download code for a game works, but if there's a physical game case next to all the other game cases, the grandparent will understand it's the complete "thing" you need to play the game. When I was a kid, my parents got my brother a preorder of Pokemon Moon for his birthday and the Gamestop employee gave her one of their extra advertisement boxes for the game for her to put the receipt in.

Worse part, it's entirely triple a developers refusing to minimize the size of their games files. I can fit over 40 indie games on my switch, but oh, the Xbox can't fit call of duty and the next one? NOT EVEN JUST A COMPETITOR, TWO GAMES THEY MADE BACK TO BACK? it's rediclous and half the reason I've given up on them. They'd rather attempt a hostage negotiation to make sure you're not playing a game that competes with them through sheer file space rather than through quality. It's disgraceful to think I ever spent money on them if they treat me and my file space as the enemy
@pg28 Жыл бұрын
@@shadowsnake5133its not that they want huge file sizes. Its that games just get bigger and bigger as devs get more and more skilled. While some projects (FNAF SB. Cyberpunk. Etc) are corner cut to get it out by the time it needs to be. Those are less common than youd thing. They dont treat your file size like the enemy. They just are making bigger games. Digital has some upsides and some flaws. For pros: less required space, no need to switch discs. Cons: nasty DRM, needing an account, needing an internet connection (back to DRM), can be revoked (again, DRM), and you can’t physically hold it and admire it. GOG only really has the downside of not having the game tangibly. There’s also the fact it’s Scott’s worst f**king nightmare.

GoG is digital gaming done right. You can download a completely offline installer so you technically have a physical copy if you burn it to a disc or even keep it on a large storage drive, but you can also use their launcher and have the convenience of installing and playing it directly from there. Great video, if we summarise everything: Pros: + digital sales are great for small indie companies, it means more games available for players + it is very easy and convenient Cons - for some stupid reason (aka greed) digital downloads are usually more expensive than physical ones. - server support will eventually end and you will lose your access to your downloads forever, so technically you do not own the game. - downloading big games can take hours to finish depending on server speed - refunds are very hard to get (except steam) - you cannot give your games to others or resell them So, yeah, physical is still much better

The only digital gaming I’ll ever be interested in is roms on the real hardware.

Well, if the future is digital streaming gaming only, and you will never own this actual game then I will just quit gaming

@@HUYI1 I mean, I already have years worth of physical backlog for PS1 to PS5, Vita, GBA, DS, 3DS and Wii to Switch. Not considering all the Steam stuff that I never touched yet, so yeah, I am set for life at this point.

The thing is, while not exactly can be compared, PCs are already been digital only for ages now, but of course, you can play around with files and keep everything forever(not even considering all the ROMs and pirated stuff).

@47:20 digital code games have expiration date. The only thing that can complicate it is if the server or store is up and running. Wii store close, wii u store close, 3ds store close, ps3 store almost close, psp and vita store almost close, omg 360 will close next year. All previous online store like Stadia, Ouya are close. So expire date game code is a question mark. How can one redeem codes if the online store is close? Question mark on those that want a sealed games with day one code. That happen to me. I bought God of War Ascension day one edition with code. So 3 years later, I decided to play it and put the code in. It didn't work because the code expired. Oh, at the end of the video, you bought the Uncharted Collection. You got the physical but it needs to be installed. The disc act as a key to play the game. It would take another 20-40 minutes, depend on internet speed, to actually play the game and don't forget the patch as well.

Anytime I need a reminder of the pitfalls of modern gaming, I think back to _Chrome_ _Hounds_ , a promising near-launch title that became nothing more than a goddamn tutorial *within* its own console generation (*six* *full* *years* *prior* to end of life). 😥

I keep running into Digital copies of games that have DISC STALL and DROP. Digital behaving like a scratched PS2 disc. Authenticity?

My tv has GeForce now compatibility built in, and it can also accept wireless or wired controllers and keyboard and mouse so I tried it out one day and it worked fairly well. Sfter signing into Steam I was able to play anything I had fairly eaisly with only a tiny bit of lag(I have 1g internet, so best case scenario). But I have a PC and a PS5/Series X so I don't really need it and haven't tried it since, but it worked well enough that I'd recommend it to someone without a dedicated way to play games, especially if you have one of the OLED tvs that supports the app natively. I don't think there's many that do though, I know when I tried it my tv was the only one on the market that did though I'm sure more have come out since that do.
@rockapartie Жыл бұрын
Do you have to enable gaming mode or does the app automatically disable the TV's enhancements? Because those add a ton of extra lag.

I absolutely loved PlayStation now when I first got it and enjoy it all the way up until they got rid of it all. It was a way for me to play games in a deeper variety. Streaming was never an issue for me so I can't say it wasn't worth it.

As I hear you talk, you make me aware of something. Why am I buying the game when I usually have it beat within 30 days? I could be saving so much money. You want to pay $60 up front and maybe get $35 back. I rather pay $15 up front and that is it. I have never thought about that idea before. 😊
