Fantastic. We all need wisdom in our lives concerning technology and its effects on our lives good and bad.

I love the title, and it's so interesting to hear Thich Nhat Hanh talk about "burn out". I see people commuting home to the suburbs from work downtown at 9 pm. I assume they will wake up early for work. Homes in Toronto start around $1 million and the banks make huge profits and in some cases are happy to work with criminals and help clients commit tax fraud and tax evasion. A friend, who goes to a food bank, told me his coworkers survive on noodles! 25% of our pay/work goes to taxes to subsidize big oil companies and clean up toxic mining sites across Canada while oil companies give their presidents million dollar bonuses. Also, homes can be bought and sold 3 times in one day, raising the prices and adding years of work to a homeowner's life. Foreign investors purchase an entire floor of condos, 10 condos, and they sit empty, increasing homelessness to Canadians who have payed taxes their entire lives. Housing is not an investment, it's a basic human right. The government and banks don't own the land, they just claim it and leave farmers and homeowners to survive; this is the history of Canada and the USA. This is globalization, corporate greed and politics in the 21st Century. This is why people are burnt out...

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you Venerable Thay. Your deep talk about technology have helped me a lot, because I really need it in order to do my job, but some times I was feeling bad to use it a lot, but now I understand a Wonderfull way to comprehend tis issue. Lots of hugs with all my respect and honor to you. Evangelina Cortes.

Without this laptop, my computer service, KZbin, and all the technology used at Plum Village to record you, Dear Thay, I would not be sitting here listening to your wonderful Dharma talks every night. It is up to each individual to choose what to consume through technology. Technology can be used to consume garbage and it can be used as a vehicle for healing.

That's true and obvious enough yet it's not an argument, merely a statement of duality which would lead you nowhere, because it allows not to take any action. Feels like you posted this because it resonates with you and you wanted to make yourself look good. In the very beginning he said "it does us more negative things than positive", your comment is quite literally useless and the fact it got so relatively many likes is a demonstration people either haven't mindfully listened to this talk or haven't absorbed the idea which's the same thing.

Yes, and most people are not using a conscious choice. We can all make better choices.

Thank You Thay! This is a beautiful and helpful talk. ... but I think the title is not respectful to horses. I have been so grateful to learn that you are vegan and teach veganism. vegans do not ride horses or use animals at all, respecting them and letting them live and move naturally.

Sasa- the title is referring specifically to a parable Thay shares in the talk, not to horses' roles in our lives in general. In the parable, the person is riding a horse but the basic message is "are you telling the horse where to go, or is the horse directing you?" While the metaphor involves riding horses, it's not meant to condone it but to show that we can be overtaken by our advancements if we're not mindful in their use. Hope this helps!
