The Horse Photoshoot - A behind the scenes, through the lens view of an equine photography session

A full shoot walkthrough and final image sharing session of a horse photography session with Twiggy the Connemara and her human, Emily. This video wasn't planned out to be recorded but I felt the content might be useful to some people so it was best to share with a voiceover pointing out what I was doing at the creation point of every shot.

This was fascinating. I have been photographing mostly dogs and cats for years, almost all for animal rescues, but I love all animals and would love to photograph horses. I had a friend contact me to do that, but knew that I know nothing about horses (and am slightly afraid of them) so was extremely happy to see you had some videos. People think that since you can photograph a dog, you can do any animal! Now I know what my goals are, to capture the horse looking her best!

I'd love to see more horse shoots, especially with people in them, to see more about how you pose the humans. I also just have to share with you that I was tearing up watching this, because in just under two weeks I will be taking photos of my own old gray mare (and handing my camera off to a friend to take some photos of me with her that I will then edit) before we euthanize her (cancer) later this month. She's 25 now, and I've had her since she was 12, and I have her daughter. Of course, I have lots of cell phone pictures of her, but I just haven't gotten nice photos of her until now. Anyway, all that to say thanks for sharing, cause this has reminded me of a few shots I'd like to get with her while we have the chance.

Very nice pictures and a really good explanation of the making of. Just some remarks: some fern (bracken) is also poisonous for horses and a 20 year old pony is not necessarily old. My last pony became 37. Ears to the front is important, also important: eyes open. Great work.

Love your channel, great job. But: one question: Why do you expose to the left most of the time? Just curious. :)

With a grey horse, my main priority is protecting highlights at all costs. Secondly, some of the locations we shoot in push kit to the limit so I'd shoot under than compromise the quality of the shot SOOC. I'm not 100% on which situation it would be for this video as it's been nearly 6 months since the shoot but I'm guessing the grey protection over the kit limits - I don't remember it being super super dark on this day.

I’m wondering how you are positioned are you standing up or squatting down so you are shooting up towards the horse.
