The information in this video is amazing. I thought I knew how to take decent black background portraits of horses but I learned a ton.

Great tutorial with lots of helpful information. I really appreciate your explanation of why you place the horse halfway in or out at the door and how the harsh light would create a line across the horse. Thank you!

Thank you so much for doing this video. I have horses all around me and so many humans that have horses as their pets. I've gotten some work from them but I wasn't sure how to get better at horse photography. There were so many tips backed into this video.

That was fascinating and beautifully done, but way too advanced for me. Is there a beginner tutorial that would get me moving in the direction of being able to do lovely work like this…eventually? I have not used any photo editing software. Where do I start? Thank you!

just watching this - but as you were saying if there is hard sun light - it will create a bright photo or create hard lines on the horse. in the example you diffused the light - but how would one diffuse the light in an actual hard sun light situation? large scrims? many thanks
@ThatPhotographySpot
@ThatPhotographySpot 3 жыл бұрын
Most technical but correct answer would be large scrims, but with horses that is a little risky because they may spook, increasing the risk factor of the session. Basic answer would be wait or reschedule for a day with forecast cloud. Meeting in the middle on the basis there is no darker/shaded area, and scrims aren't an option: Place the horse further into the shed/barn to avoid harsh light on them - this may increase the amount of masking and clean-up required, but it's often the only way when you're out in the field and you have to work with what you've got 🤓

Sorry that it was too quick for you, you can alter the playback settings in each video you view. This can be used to slow the video playback down which may help if you find some videos moving too quickly. Glad you still learnt a bit from this video though!
