On a recent visit to Hong Kong, I tried out three of Marriott's best high-end hotels in the city on three separate nights.
After spending a first night at the St. Regis in Wan Chai, I headed across the harbour to the Ritz-Carlton and W at Kowloon ICC, the tallest building in Hong Kong.

Seeing three-digit floor levels and the type of food you got for breakfast really makes me miss travelling in Asia! The StR's base level room would literally qualify for a junior suite. Thanks for the review and safe travels / quarantine back home!

The St. Regis HK, room layout & design look very similar to the Fairmont Vancouver Airport, I stayed in that one when I came back to Vancouver from LHR for the 3 day Hotel Quarantine. Really nice decor, spacious & great views.

@@PrinceofTravel Hmmmm......depends on which signs you read. The academic doctors on the HK government's advisory commission keep telling the local press that restrictions on vaccinated people should be further TIGHTENED in view of the number of "breakthrough" infections being reported in the UK and elsewhere. (I live in HK, and am dying to do some travel, but only after the restrictions come down to a reasonable level.)

I flew into the US actually. Got one in Hong Kong ($40) for the US flight, and then got one in the US ($200 USD) to cross the Canadian border.

Paid cash actually. At Category 7 and 8, the value in redeeming points just wasn't there - I'd prefer to earn more points towards future stays instead.

Hong Kong is on my bucket list! This video has helped a lot in choosing hotels. Question: would you check in to these hotels as a Platinum member or wait until Titanium for a better chance for an upgrade? Thank you for such a great video!

Titanium definitely gives you a better chance, and technically you're only entitled to upgrades at the Ritz if you're a Titanium, not if you're a Platinum. However, the Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong actually has more suites than the other two, so they tend to be more generous in upgrading elites (even Platinum members). I'd say you have a fair shot even as a Platinum, but keep your expectations in check because Hong Kong has lots of elite members with cash to blow, so it's not the easiest place for upgrades!

Hotels also rather upgrade a platinum member if they paid with cash compared to a titanium but redeemed with points. Cash is 100% face value. Points on the other hand I think equals to around 60% ish reimbursement value i think

I actually love all three brands but they do not have an executive lounge. If they have with an happy hours it would be great and easy to decide and book. I knew because of the brands were in other before Marriott Bonvoy. But hopefully one day they will change and have an executive lounge.

Ricky - how did you get a free upgrade for Ritz Carlton Victoria Harbor suite? I checked the price - it is typically going for $1000 US (instead of $250 US as quoted in your video) - did you just book the entry level room and somehow got upgraded to such suite because they know you. I heard they treat youtubers like celebrities in hong kong as they see that as PR marketing for the hotel... wonder how can laymen like us can get such upgrade without costing an arm and leg

Titanium Elite status got me an automatic upgrade to the Deluxe Suite with Sea View. Then I pushed the hotel really hard to get the Victoria Harbour View - I said "it'd mean the world to me to get the suite", "it'll be an unforgettable stay", etc. They ended up giving it to me but without late checkout, since it was already booked by someone else the following night.

Well it is attainable for many. Maybe it is only you who think these luxury hotels are unobtainable. Try the Ritz in Tokyo or Kyoto, that is triple the price of Hong Kong and still fully book on some weekends.
