It's awesome. I just watched some clips of the remake that just came out and they were not able to capture that same feeling. The brief moments where you can see the outside landscape do so much to add to the game. The beginning, 9:46 , 10:24 , and of course the Magician fight at 24:13 (that looks like it's on a different planet) are great.

Fun Fact: House of the Dead 1 and 2 are officially being remade and hopefully a release of this year! I can still smell the stale popcorn and soda from the Putt-Putt Golf up the road from me that had this cabinet. I'm 27 now, yet i still remember back when i was around 4 years old, i saw a random dude playing this game. I still remember the scene where there was a guy begging for you to free him inside of a cell, and suddenly the zombie behind him slowly shuffle towards him. I remember seeing the padlock, but the stranger keeps trying to shoot through the cell bar, and i dont know how to tell them to shoot the padlocks. Then, i watched in horror as the innocent person got eaten alive by zombie, i couldn't sleep that night. 11/10 would get traumatized again.

When I was a child I was an arcade saloon and playing this. Just after the first boss, I died and i needed one more token to keep going. Suddenly a child ran and came back with a token in 6-7 seconds. I still thank that dude. Then, every other person in arcade saloon left their games and started to watching me. I had a big pressure on me. I had to kill the last boss, and with the others’ help I finished the game! The whole arcade saloon was like thunderous applause! Everyone congratulated me :) that was the best moment of my life

I remember that this was the only arcade game that truly gave nightmare to me when I was a kid. I was about 8, wandering around the play arena and saw the arcade screen playing intro of this game, and I quickly felt anxious. It was my first encounter of zombies and I was confused as heck because they looked like human but it's almost as if they're gonna eat me from the screen. Then when I went to bed at night that day, I had nightmares about those zombies, very gory scenery and blood everywhere. Resident Evil? I certainly have come along way to be able to play RE without peeing in my pants.

I first met this game in 2003 in an arcade that was still up in my city. I always wanted to play it, but since I was still a kid the dudes in the arcade didn't let me. Two years later the arcade was closed and I never had the chance to play it or even see it again, but the title screen cutscenes managed to stay on my mind forever... Now in my adult age, I suddenly remembered those cutscenes and after a lot of research and some youtube recomendations, came up with the conclusion that it was this exact game, and yes, it definitely was. Good old childhood memories brought back in a moment.

TBF it's supposed to be a quarter muncher in arcades so it's supposed to take several hours and dollars before you best it. Since this is emulated (and the person playing this has really good aim), it only takes half an hour

Back in the day these were arcades. The best part was watching people like you play. There was crowds consisting of kids and teens. Some of them couldn’t even afford to play more than a couple continues. When you beat the game man it was real… you turn around and you’d have around 8-10 guys behind.

3 and 4 don't have a good feel. Part of it is that enemies in 3 and 4 aren't as destructible, especially bosses. Blasting all of Chariot's parts off was fun as hell and made you want to play more. Compare that to fighting Death, who loses his hat and nothing else (and just won't go away.) In 1 and 2, one perfect shot could save you when a boss was about to roast your ass. In 3 and 4, you need to get multiple perfect shots in a short time to drain a boss' stun meter, and it feels cheap when a boss hits you anyway.

I love this and the second game. I remember when I was a kid, that I watched the magician intro video in an arcade machine, with those pulsating cable vein things, it was so creepy yet I always wanted to see more of the game, the same sensation that you feel when you watch a horror movie

The great thing about the bosses for the HotD series is that it shows you the weak point for all but the final boss, but the challenge therein is hitting the weak spot enough times to damage the boss, due to their erratic movement and attack patterns

I have actually noticed that zombies in this game series are pretty intelligent especuially in the overkill . In house of the dead 2 and 4 , zombies actually know how to drive car . In house of the dead 3 , there is a zombie who has retained his language and can even talk . And in overkill , zombies are very intelligent . The zombies in this series can even use tools . Its a change to other zombie stories .
