In the last couple of days, been helping my daughter & son-in-law shop for a car.. of course dusting off my 30 year old 12C to help cut through the usual Financing Dept smoke & mirrors BS, Damn that's a great calculator!!

I was never shown how to use a financial calulator, so I am following along on a BAII+(only FC in my house), my PMT was -1248.88 (oh no) Figured out why, in that a 12C despite not showing the additional decimal places on screen when i/12 is pressed is still accounting for them in the background. (I thought 0.29 looked a little too neat!) Great instructional video. Kinda regretting not having bought the 12c I found at a thrift store a few years back.

Does it have principal repayment over n months? Ditto interests? Doesn't look like it does which makes it a no go for serious work

After computing the monthly interest rate you said that to get the yearly rate one needs to press ENTER and then *. WRONG! The ENTER key is not called for in this case. Merely key in ‘12’ and then hit *. You really ought to correct this - it misrepresents RPN, the beauty of this calculator…Steve Z 4:59

Love the video...i find f and xy key does not clear the registers though. You have to do function key (f) and the CLX key to clear the registers. If you forget to hit the function key first the CLX key will only clear the screan and not the registers

Anyone know how to find Pi on the HP 12c Calculator, thanks so much.

You won’t find π on the HP-12c. It is a financial calculator and as far as I know, there isn’t any use for pi in finance. The HP-15c is a similar model and is an engineering calculator. Pi is definitely on that one. cheers! 👍🏻

You can divide 355 by 113. Accurate to four or five places as I recall. And maybe store that calculation in PROGRAM memory ( if you use pi a lot…). SSZ

Why do I continue to get an error when I try the following factors? I have no idea what I’m doing wrong. Loan: 75,000 Monthly payment: -400.00 Interest rate: 7.5 PV: 0 I just keep getting Error.

I can tell you. The calculator correctly informed you that this scenario was unsolvable. The monthly interest on that type of loan will be $468.75 per month. If you pay $400 per month, you will perpetually be in debt and the loan debt will also increase. Not good. You will never be able to pay it off. Either decrease the interest, or increase the monthly payment, or start with a smaller PV. I hope that helps! Cheers to you for learning basic finance.
