You've probably never heard of it but the HP 95LX, a portable computer from 1991, was awesome! This machine was created from a partnership between HP and Lotus Software, creators of the hit spreadsheet program Lotus123! This tiny device was a marvel of miniaturization offering a small "palmtop" experience with power that matched the 30 pound beasts of just a few generations earlier. This system was a major step up in portable computer tech!

I have had mine since 1992, and still use it on a daily basis. While in college in the early 90's, I used Solver for Dupont analysis of financial statements as well as calculating the Black Scholes option pricing model. Today, I still use solver when pricing expected future option prices in my daily trading activities.

I was kindly gifted an HP200LX. It came from a family friend who bought it while he was living on a boat. He intended to use it to help in doing the calculations for celestial navigation while out at sea.

That was the killer app on it. It was (as far as I know) ful blown Lotus 1-2-3 adjusted for the 40x16 character screen. ;)

The most constructive criticism I can give is that you need to show more video of the machines actually operating in your videos. I know that sometimes you want to give a history retrospective when your system isn't functional, but the HP 95LX you have is clearly working. Showing off all of the built-in applications, and how they were modified to fit that system, would have been very interesting and informative.

1000% this. Too many pans of things that don't line up with the narration. Seems to be a common problem with all of their videos.

I disagree, most of these machines are interesting historically but fairly mundane and boring in use. All this has is lotus123, a simple word processor and a phone book basically. There's very little on it that would be visually interesting for someone.
@JimLeonard

@@medes5597 It is interesting, and historically relevant, that the applications are built into ROM. The handheld has no hard drive, and lotus was modified for the system to be embedded in ROM. Comparing the differences would have been informative.

@@IExSet Oh im sure ;-) But i have terrible vision and without a back light :-( Also I had an accident with my right hand and i have no nerves in my finger tips. The keyboard on those 90-200LX series are a pain for me. I love my 360LX. I use lithium Ion AA batteries (Have to charge them outside of the unit in a charger, they cant be charged inside the unit). I get crazy good battery like. They are 3500mah Ion batteries. Ya gotta remember some of the rechargeable batteries at the time were only 600-1200mah. Today we have batteries that hold 3 times that. My Emate (Apple) 300, i rebuilt the battery pack in that and it gets 24+ hours of a charge. ;-)

HP makes great printers. The problem is that nearly everyone makes frustrating printer drivers but in this day and age, they all do just fine. Don't waste your time or money on cheap, shitty printers. HP makes great printers, especially when you spend a little more to get something good.

There's really not much they could have done yo improve the physical design of this system. Hence why it's successors changed very littler externally

HP makes terrible printers? I still use a 15 year old HP color Laserjet that even let me upgrade the ram like a computer. I’m a graphic artist and use it daily, it’s outlived multiple generations of computers I use.

HP makes great printers. He was definitely being hyperbolic ... or thinks that his single experience with a lemon printer means they're all bad.
