Thanks for the update video! Happy to see HPI coming back strong. I had watched your earlier video and then updated my gearbox with a Serpent 27t idler gear and a (please forgive me HPI) spare Slash 2WD diff. I had to add some allen key outdrives and shim the idler to get everything centered but the bodged gearbox is still working with a 3900kv brushless set-up. If the parts become available here in the US, I will switch to a factory HPI gearbox set-up. I am a fan of the orange V2 body and wheels and will get a set if I can find someone stocking them locally.

Good work! Nice to hear that someone actually managed to get around the original design flaw. I don't see why the parts wouldn't be available in the US. I mean, I don't know where HPI's biggest customer base is, but I'd be surprised if the US is one of, if not the biggest.

I bought the Jumpshot MT shortly after it came out as well and i loved driving it, but after a few runs on all stock motor etc the gearbox was sounding suspicious with clicking / crunching now and then. I had one bad landing from a jump, upside down and it exploded the bodyshell and it's sat in my loft since. When the V2 came out, i bought the steel idler gear and queried HPI to what specifically were the other improvements and they told me that the spur gear, and plastic diff housing / large gear although was still plastic, both had a higher carbon content in the plastic to make them harder. I plan to put the metal idler inside my old original version, try and find a replacement bodyshell and run it with a 12t 550 motor for bashing. If it chews the gears spur or the diff housing gear, then i could still upgrade to either the new metal version or the V2 harder plastic ones, depending on pricing. I loved HPI many moons ago and still have my Wheely King and some E-Savages in storage and even though i have Stampede and it's super tough, the Jumpshot was nicer to drive. It handled and jumped better and i much prefer the TVP chassis over bathtub. I've a TRX-4 as wel but i'd still like a Venture chassis kit someday as well because they offer fantastic features for the price. I hope more people can get b ehind HPI again and it'll encourage them to keep going in the right direction
@TheRCScotsman
@TheRCScotsman 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it was BAD, wasn't it?? That gearbox was a joke. Give it a go, all you have to lose is to wait for the metal parts becoming available. Then, it'll be sorted! The Wheelie King looks great! In-fact... I might have another look at one... Yeah, let's all support HPI and bring them back into the game! Cheers.

Interesting listening to your thoughts as this is a truck I'm looking at getting as a newbie 😁 As a person looking to get into the hobby would you say this would be a good start? I know you don't have first hand experience with the new models but was curious on your thoughts based of the old one. Having asked the question before I seem to get the same answer that a 2wd truck will be rubbish and I should go for 4x4. Looking at mainly taking it to the local parks/woodlands and skateparks when possible so guesing I would need something to take a jump or two and a little bit of abuse while I figure things out 😂 possibly the wrong place to ask such a question but you seem to be one of few who doesn't hold preconceptions and assumes that it will be terrible before they have even tried it....... Anyway, keep up the good work as it's made me consider something other than the obvious such as the arrma 3s range 😅
@TheRCScotsman

2WD gets a lot of stick, because it's more difficult to drive than a 4WD truck. But I like 2WD! They wheelie better, powerslide better and are more tricky (read; fun) to blast around with! For a 2WD truck, either this, or the Corally Triton/Moxoo/Mammoth would be my pick. For 4WD, look at the Maverick range. The Arrma 3s range is another step up, but is more expensive. Not just for the trucks, themselves, but also 3s batteries and compatible chargers cost more. Whatever you do, have fun! Cheers.
@dori318ti
@dori318ti 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheRCScotsman thanks for the info 😁 how come you recommend the maverick range for 4x4? I have read that they can't take the abuse and can be a little fragile with jumps etc? Tbh I am budgeting ~£450 but that's for lipos, charger, spares and truck/buggy/truggy. I suppose I'm just looking at options as I really like the look of the 2wd models as they seem like they will be a better fit for me as I like a challenge 😅 I just don't want to find myself unable to use it due to ground conditions etc as I would want to drive all year round (even though the UK weather may do it's best to out me off going out 😂) really appreciate all the advice as it's really helping
@TheRCScotsman

@@dori318ti I guess it depends on the exact model. The old Maverick range was dreadful, but the newer stuff is supposed to be really good, especially for the price. I have the Jumpshot SC V2, and I'm in the process of addressing everything your vid mentioned, but otherwise it's a fantastic truck. The body shell on mine has taken crazy abuse and only gotten the normal surface scars. I like that the control/battery box is adjustable so you can change the F/R weight ratio for whatever your driving situation is, and with the new aluminum diff housing, metal idler and spur gears, and full sealed ceramic bearing kit I'm about to put in, along with the 120A ESC and 5200Kv brushless system I've already installed, this thing is going to be a rocket ship!!!!

@@gillian9178 It's tough, because I haven't experienced the new Jumpshot. So, to be safe, I'll say the Corally. Purely because the Corally has an absolutely bulletproof drivetrain and is also cheaper. The Jumpshot COULD be just as good, but I'd be guessing.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very tempted by a Senton 3s and think that would be amazing! But... there's nothing average about a well sorted 2WD monster truck. As far as smiles-per-pound is concerned, they're about as good as you can get! More humble, but decent quality models are more relevant to more people and I like them for it. 2WD gives the best wheelies, the best doughnuts and are a challenge to drive. They make me smile, that's why I like them! But yes, I was hovering over the buy button on an Arrma 3s!
