While it cannot fully replace a DSLR, the P20 Pro stacks up great against e.g. my Panasonic DMC G6. I've just taken it on holiday, and while it's not perfect (the AI can be a bit too invasive), almost every single shot is in focus. Everything in these phones is software regulated including camera performance. Without *heavy* software processing pictures would look rubbish and unusable. Lens and other bullshit is just for marketing. Like Huawei and Leica and Sony with Zeiss. I'm shocked "professional" reviewers ignore this subject and just go on what Samsung/ Huawei / One Plus /Apple tells them . Probably because of financial reasons. You just can't produce lens small enough to get in enough light to that sensor actually make a difference in quality. That is just for people who have no idea and just get fooled by marketing. Whoever has the best processing algorithm(s) is the winner not the one who has the best sensor (arguable) / lens (like for example in a DSLR) Case closed. IT's the reason Pixel 2 is still around in camera tests. Google has perfected their algorithm of analysing scenes and apply the proper "treatment" to the image. No wonder they kept our pictures for "free" :)

This what happens when you have sensor fusion. Decent image capture hardware. Decent information from the sensor suite to augment the data. A dedicated AI chip. And then sprinkle smart AI. Everyone. There has been problems with my P20 pro. I found that I have to hold so freaking still just to get an image as good as S7 did, even if the shutter speed is so fast, that's because the main camera is just too shaky! The focus also just not on par with my old S7 either. 🤦‍♂️ When looking through the viewfinder I also found that the telephoto lens seems to only activate when it wants to. This is absolutely ridiculous and Huawei must fix their camera software.

They can't without a tripod even if they had long exposure, you can stop the exposure at any time instead of letting it finish the 4sec, you'd still get a better photo than in auto so it's the best.

Its not fair if you use the night mode on huawei then you the pro mode in samsung go to shutter speed and select 4 secend (its go untill 30 sec and the samsung could do that from galaxy s6)
