There's a huge problem with KZbin at the moment and I'm fed up with it all!
So what's the moral of this rant???
If you don't want to watch the sponsored segment, just skip it!
If you don't like what a creator is doing, don't watch them!
If you have some criticism, make it constructive.

Gaz, my wife and I are not interested in camping in the slightest. We wouldn't know one end of a tent from the other and we will likely never camp in an established campsite, let alone wild camp - but your channel appeared on our you tube home page one day about 18 months ago and we have been totally hooked since. We watch your channel for you and Fendy and the adventures you both get up to. I was off on holiday last week, was flicking through you tube when I suddenly thought - I need to watch that video Gaz did where he got a fright because he thought something stood on his tent- I think I must have replayed that bit about 5 times, so funny. Point is, your subscribers will come from everywhere and for all sorts of reasons and we are quite picky about who we consider as our regular channels, so consider yourself in the fold and please don't stop sharing your adventures with us all.

I agree too. I watch channels because creators hold my interest. I have no interest in wild camping, or the ability if I wanted to. I like watching you though. If I want to learn to set up a tent or use a propane stove, KZbin is a great resource. Would I keep watching those channels after learning the skill? Likely not. They’d have to really grab my interest.

I sincerely hope you can make this work; Gaz, I want to do the same, but mine would be crochet. I love watching videos of places I know I will never see. I see them through your videos. I don’t like shorts either, avoid watching them. KZbin telling creators and viewers what we want is offensive. And laughable given how wrong their algorithm is so much of the time. But even if they weren’t so error prone, I think for myself. I don’t let Big Tech do that for me.

Guys short vids can just be used to advertise your long vids lol short vids can be useful especially if you want to engage with younger generations lol. You dont like them fine dont watch them but short vids can get your channel noticed faster.

@@wolfcloud8735 sounds like your young lol. Did I write that correctly as the young folks do? It’s difficult for me to put in the spelling and grammatical errors. Just FYI, I never tell a creator what to produce. If I’m not interested, I simply don’t watch. The thing is, many creators from multiple subject areas are reporting the same thing. Views are falling, and it’s because of how the algorithm promotes, or fails to promote, videos. You talk about attracting younger viewers like that’s something every creator should seek (insert mandatory lol). Even at the cost of current (you would say older) viewers. And reduced views equates to reduced income. Wanna know something funny? Back in the early 80s (yes I’m old), I was learning about the pitfalls of chasing new customers at the expense of existing customers. And the comparative cost of getting a new customer as opposed to retaining the ones you’ve already got. The difference was substantial, I believe 50 to 1. You get it? What you’re talking about is nothing new, and is a demonstrated fallacy. Creators should be able to target the audience they wish to target, not be channeled into a niche they have no interest in, especially if it negatively affects their livelihood. And the audience shouldn’t lose content and creators and community they like because of said channeling. And, finally, I wonder how many young people even want to watch the old folks. Have I made my point, or did I use too many big words? LOL. Notice I correctly capitalized LOL; being an acronym, it should be capitalized. But then, I’m old, have a decent education, and remember when chats were new and people actually capitalized LOL and BRB and such.

I watch your channel here in Arizona. I have a KZbin channel also on getting wildlife on my trail camera here. For the last few years, i was getting 5-8k views a video, but for the last year, getting views is terrible. I have to hussle just to try and get 1k or so views for each video. It's awful with all the time I put into getting my footage and the cost out of my own pocket. I'm also a landscaper here in Southern Az, so my KZbin channel work is my spare time gig. I wish I made enough from my channel to live.

E. I just subscribed to your channel. These darn guys de subscribed me. I have seen a popular guy in the US who has gotten hell from You tube. They have taken his internet down, written untruths and anything else they can do to get rid of him. I was a landscaper myself for over 25 years. You bust your butt day after day. Damn hard work. The summer heat here is unbearable. So many are doing it now and are not contractors as required here in California. I am 68 now and still do my property of one and half an acres and fully landscaped. Please don’t ask me about the metric system. I wasn’t listening at school that day. Omg. Work. Work. The need for gear trying is a must for any camper. If you don’t like that in this channel, you can stick it!! I had been involved in Boy Scouts from beginning through Eagle. You've hit the nail on the head there! It's the Shorts - it's massively addicting to just scroll and scroll through the shorts, and you/I just forget about everything else, so you come on here to watch something and end up just scrolling through the shorts. Great for KZbin, not so good for long-form creators. I think the only answer is to join 'em, not try to beat 'em...make a mixture of long and short-form videos.

People complain about KZbinrs taking sponsorships and promoting Patreons but if they did KZbin and got a 5k sponsorship for one video they would take it instantly. KZbin is a dream job and I’d never fault anyone for trying to make extra money for doing something that they enjoy.

You give up a big part of your life to share with the world Even personal... Its fine if they are correctly flagged and people don't just say "This is amazing" because they've been paid. Saw one couple that "reviewed" solar panel setup for camping. Said it was great and amazing, that the local shop had given it to them for free. They never declaire in the video with the sponsor button which you're required to do, even if you take no money, the item and content for the video is the "paid for". Then they said they hadn't actually tried the panel yet. How can you claim its a legit review when you've not actually tried the product.

I have also noticed that YT'ers with less than 1000 subs are getting ads. When I started YT 9 years ago I needed 1000 subs and 4000 watch hours before I could get ads. Dont know why that is happening.

Idaho USA here, I enjoy watching the history part. My greatgrandparents left the old country for the new country around the early 1800s to the mid 1800s. They came across in the wagon train when grandpa was just a baby, they were attacked by the Indians and survived. So when you talk about the history there, I get a little sense of where my old family came from. Thank you for videos.

I really enjoy your video’s, I think you and Fendy are a great team and it’s obvious that you put a lot of effort into your content. I especially enjoy it when you give a history lesson. I like the fact that you don’t rely on drones (overused I think) and it just one man and his dog exploring the countryside and having a variety of experiences. Us British are an odd sort when it confessed to success, we have never applauded it whereas in the states it’s the opposite..it’s something in our psyche in all walks of life. I had noticed that I was getting small channels on my home page and that I wasn’t seeing the usual channels that used to populate my feed. Do what makes you happy.. life is too short to do anything else.

It's because you are living the dream. I don't feel this way but I think understand the workings of if. A lot of viewers are stuck in their daily grind, and they like to imagine that you have a job like them but still manage to go out and camp during the weekends. That makes them feel like they could too. But if you become a full-time youtuber, you sort of becomes less relatable. Look, it's petty but it's human. It is good that you explain the hardships of making your videos, because it seems easy but I know it's not. You should definitely try to go full-time if you can, take the sponsorships. Don't take the backlash personally, but understand and maybe even have some empathy for the reasons behind it. And as for other creators throwing shade - don't get involved.

I've never had any desire to go camping, none in the least even though I love the outdoors and I live in a lovely part of the country. In spite of that I love watching your videos. They're always fun, entertaining and there's Fendi of course. There'll always be jealous types but sod them! If you can make money out of doing what you love, in any way, then you go for it. Nearly every KZbinr I watch is sponsored in some way. Yes it can be a bit tedious with the same old Surfshark ads time and again but that's what the fast forward is for. KZbin would be diminished if it lost the sort of channels that have genuine authenticity. There's room for all sorts on this platform and there's definitely room for you and Fendi.

Mate we love your "character" your presence, the chattyness your frankness, reviews and the places you stay, you present videos really well and have that "approachable" nature of that bloke on the street but in the countryside. I know what struggles you go through and really commend you on getting out there and willing to make a video even if your having a bad week or 2. I know its very hard and people dont realise the mental challenges that we go through. Just to get out of bed sometimes is so difficult. Im always so impressed on how you have dealt with such low times, difficulties and really hope to see alot more of you being you. Yes, Fendys part of the action and that helps your cause, its just great to see you getting out there and enjoying the outdoors. To be totally honest with you, i would totally ignore what others think, dont even look for the negatives on other channels, its obviously all jealousy of your channel growing and thats a big feather in your outdoor cap as you obviously know by all the time you put in to understanding your audience and how to move forward with your channel. You will definitely keep growing if you consistently put out videos of you going out, its not necessarily about reviewing products, or the best ways to do things, in my opinion you just going out and being that approachable chap, having a good time, enjoying what you do, is the reason why i watch. You're so right Gaz! I've been noticing this happening to some other wild/stealth camping channels I follow...the bigger a channel gets, certain smaller channels start hating them and the way they carry on is like teenaged bullies. It's really sad. As in 'real life' away from KZbin, some people can't stand to see others doing well. The thing is with KZbin, not everyone has what it takes to make it. You've got to have a likable and unique enough persona and a way about making your videos stand out that makes people want to watch. You, and certain others I watch I feel have that and stand out from the community a mile...you just have that special something, which is why your channel is taking off. That leaves alot of people to feel bitter and sadly not everyone in life is decent. They're probably just as bitter in other aspects of life too. Let that eat away at them and just focus on what you love doing, what you're good at and enjoy it. They're only trying to drag you down because they're jealous and want what you've got! 😊 Keep doing you, keep your head down and focus on the good, supportive people not the bad energies! ❤

Hey Gaz, you keep it real mate, ( ice cream van jingle in background 😂) which is rare these days. The only thing I will say about being monetised through KZbin as the only source of income is a precarious situation to be in. "All your eggs in one basket situation". From what I have seen it is easy to be cancelled and de-monetised or de-platformed which begs the question is it viable? Nevermind the abuse some KZbinrs have to put up with. Great channel mate, I always laugh and enjoy every video. I think you have a great balance of providing entertainment for the viewers and enjoying yourself out camping with dog. We all need an income from somewhere, if it were that easy creating video's and putting yourself out there infront of camera, we would all be doing it. Fair play to anyone who is a creative person who can consistently produce great videos. I tried I am proper shit at it....😂

I really enjoy photography, I started getting a few jobs, so I was then trying to create something that someone else will like. I found myself falling out of love with a passion I enjoyed so much. Think my point is when you turn a hobby into a job I feel the love can (not always) disappear, I now remember to do whatever I do for me. That’s the only way my passion will thrive, I love to see people genuinely enjoying themselves doing something they love and I feel this shines through in videos. I just found your channel 2 weeks ago. I’ve pretty much watched every video you’ve made. I am not a wild camper. I was not involved in wild camping. I didn’t even know what wild camping was before your vids. KZbin has suggested other channels similar to yours, and I have tried to watch them and have not found them to be entertaining or interesting. I’m also not a connoisseur. I will, however, say that you have great energy You’re interesting to watch, you have a lovely character and demeanor, a beautiful laugh, and every video that I’ve watched makes me feel better.
