My auntie was in local radio and got given samplers. She gave me a pile of em one day and this was in it. Can’t explain how this version of Being Boiled got to me. I played this over and over and over. Didn”t know what the fek it was about but the massive sound of those synths with the intimidating drums and of course Phil’s vocals was ridiculously good. I remember when Dare came out and that was really special, especially Love Action. But this pre-commercial stuff was something else. Dark and dirty, just how the industrial North should be ;). No I don’t have the vinyl anymore, left it in someone’s garage in the late 90’s, Edgware, London with all my other rare vinyl. RIP

Holy shite! Never even knew this existed! Of course though I live in FL., USA where anything from Europe, esp. England (at the time) had to be very popular first in all of Europe before it would ever be considered for play on American radio stations! So many great songs never saw the light of air-play because of "country" & "rock 'n roll" being so damn dominant. I've nothing against those forms of music, love some, but like I said; a lot of excellent European music was never heard over here in the States. I remember being so pissed back when I was in high-school. My general rule was if they weren't from England, I probably didn't listen to them. Yeah, there are good groups from elsewhere, but it just seemed like every single one I liked came from England. Anyway, that was 35 yrs. ago. Still, to this "Very" day, love music from England and Europe! P.S. Thank you for having this channel. 👍👌😁🇬🇧🇺🇸

Sorry but the original is the original. This is just overproduced. More like a missed opportunity than "best version".

I love this version too. It's like the disco version and much more danceable. The original's great too.

For lovers of Marianne - check out “Living on a bombsite” by HL. I posted a link previously but it’s not come up - maybe it’ll return re this Holiday 80 ep. Just to say Marianne has two versions - this & an Australian version. Both Martyn & Phil co-wrote this (what he told me) & Marianne is his Favourite.

Had this when it came out. Awesome. Being Boiled does all the heavy lifting here. At the time, this was ground breaking. The Human League were from my hometown and god knows we needed the boost at the time!

I enjoyed it quite a lot, now listening to it for the third time in a row :) By the way, "Dancevision" seems to be inspired by Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark's "Electricity".
@antunivanovic5 жыл бұрын
That may be debatable. "Dancevision" is originally a track by The Future, and it is also stated as such on this EP (dating back to 1977). "Electricity" first came about in 1978 (originally by The ID, a pre-OMD group, and then in 1979 OMD recorded a few of their own versions and released them)... Surely, both "Dancevision" and "Electrocity" originally appeared in time when neither of these groups were quite aware of one another... By 1980, when THL finally released "Dancevision" on this EP, they already had two full length LPs + a few singles, so it may have been the other way around - but again, it may not be the case at all. Most synth-pop acts were creating something in their own isolated space and were taken by surprise when synth-pop went big that so many other people around them were exploring the same thing.
