Funny how The Human League and Def Leppard have kinda followed a similar tracjectory for part of their careers. They both come from Sheffield, formed in 77, shared some glam influences(Bowie etc),were part of important 80's movements (new romantics, new wave,2nd British invasion),both kickstarted the 2 definitive dominant 80's music forms(synth-pop,hair metal),both had albums called hysteria(tho one was more successful than the other! Not need to guess lol),both are fans of each other too as well as being friends. Phil Oakey said that DL are the HL with loud guitars and more hair, and Joe Elliot said that when DL were making pyromania it was influenced by dare.

I realise we all have the ‘ music was better in my day ‘ syndrome but there’s no disputing the diversity and creativity of the various movements between 62 and 90 - only 28 years when compared to the same timespan since 1990. I was born in 64 and I think for pop etc music lovers there’s been no era to touch it. A guy on here once stated how there was only 15 years between The Beatles and The Human Leagues’ first albums...unbelievable but true 🏴😇❤️from the Wilverley Enclosure Witches

I've just been re-listening to the Human League's albums and can't believe I've never seen this documentary before - especially since it's from 1999 (22 years ago!) and must have been repeated loads. It was interesting, and I really like how they've stayed down to earth, but it would be nice to see a longer, more in-depth look at the band. I know these kinds of documentaries are meant more as summaries/intros, but it felt like there was so much more to talk about, especially after 'Dare.'

Saw the original League in 1979 at Stateside in Bournemouth. Brilliantly Avant Garde and original. Went to the aftershow party and still have their autographs from than night. I then saw the new line up at the Gaumont in Southampton in '81 and although Dare is truly a classic album, they were crap live. They have struggled to create a decent follow up album since.

So, Ian and Martin decide "we're out of here" and leave Phillip and Adrien to shoulder the burden of a tour? (along with possibly being sued £250,00 for not going through with the tour) I don't know if I could be in the same room with those guys, ever. I'm really glad that Phillip pulled it off and the group became so successful.

Martyn was actually kicked out of the group that he had started. Their manager colluded with the record company to pull the band apart. This video doesn't tell the whole story. Watch the video called Synth Britannia and you'll see that Martyn Ware was made the scapegoat for the group's lack of success. The record company actually pulled a shrewd move and split the Human League up and got 2 groups for the price of one. Martyn Ware came up with the name The Human League, it was his band, and then he came up with the name Heaven 17

let me just say that the human league is perhaps the finest band in the history of pop music and when you stop and think about how awesome that is it almost makes you want to pass out from the magnitude of all of the various pop bands throughout history . I would have to say that the human league is really important in terms of musicianship and just all around stage antics and equally impressive is the massive catalogues of musical numbers and video ensembles . In fact many people surmise that human league is better described as super human league . Just wow , guys .... and of course gals as well . And so two thumbs up and five gold stars , Massive big ups to this group . Ok then , sums it up for me .

I loved Travelogue and Reproduction. I saw them (and hung out with them) in 1980. Phil was a gentle darling and looked like a god, ironically not human. Too beautiful for words. I was only 14 or I would have.... oh, who knows what could have been. Phil. Philip..... When Dare came out, I wasn't keen on the music anymore. The original lineup was perhaps somewhat short-lived, but utterly and completely incomparable. I feel blessed to have been there at that era in time. My memories are my treasures. Love you, Phil.

From the first time I heard and saw Human League on Mtv...I've always liked their songs. I was probably 16 or 17 when I saw the girls in in the group and I thought they were, and still are beautiful and sexy. I have been watching a lot of documentaries about Human League, and the more I see about them the more I like them. They all seem so down to earth and very nice people.

@@pauleyles9536 once again, that is very cool! I wish I had musical skills. I cannot sing and cannot play any instruments. My wife can play a few instruments. My two Nephews can play many different instruments. I just love classic rock, 80s music (especially early 80s), I also like heavy metal music. Human League has never had a song that I didn't like. You can feel the chemistry in their songs. Maybe you should try to get on a talent show.

@@bobstewart8032 Hiya m8. Is she a good Chess player like me? I've played chess 4 Portsmouth B and C team since I left my ex school at Lingfield Hospital School in Surrey. I was also the best chess player at my ex school. I even know a good Chess question that the experts of the game of Chess will not get the right answer 2. Mind u. The arswear 2 the question. Has got nothing whatsoever 2 do with the game of Chess. The question is. What do you the squares A1 A2 B1 and B2 on a chessboard got 2do with my home city of Portsmouth? The arswear 2 the question is that they are all ex Portsmouth bus routes.
