Funny how The Human League and Def Leppard have kinda followed a similar tracjectory for part of their careers. They both come from Sheffield, formed in 77, shared some glam influences(Bowie etc),were part of important 80's movements (new romantics, new wave,2nd British invasion),both kickstarted the 2 definitive dominant 80's music forms(synth-pop,hair metal),both had albums called hysteria(tho one was more successful than the other! Not need to guess lol),both are fans of each other too as well as being friends. Phil Oakey said that DL are the HL with loud guitars and more hair, and Joe Elliot said that when DL were making pyromania it was influenced by dare.

I realise we all have the ‘ music was better in my day ‘ syndrome but there’s no disputing the diversity and creativity of the various movements between 62 and 90 - only 28 years when compared to the same timespan since 1990. I was born in 64 and I think for pop etc music lovers there’s been no era to touch it. It was interesting, and I really like how they've stayed down to earth, but it would be nice to see a longer, more in-depth look at the band. I know these kinds of documentaries are meant more as summaries/intros, but it felt like there was so much more to talk about, especially after 'Dare.'

Martyn was actually kicked out of the group that he had started. Their manager colluded with the record company to pull the band apart. This video doesn't tell the whole story. Watch the video called Synth Britannia and you'll see that Martyn Ware was made the scapegoat for the group's lack of success. The record company actually pulled a shrewd move and split the Human League up and got 2 groups for the price of one. Martyn Ware came up with the name The Human League, it was his band, and then he came up with the name Heaven 17

let me just say that the human league is perhaps the finest band in the history of pop music and when you stop and think about how awesome that is it almost makes you want to pass out from the magnitude of all of the various pop bands throughout history . I would have to say that the human league is really important in terms of musicianship and just all around stage antics and equally impressive is the massive catalogues of musical numbers and video ensembles . In fact many people surmise that human league is better described as super human league . Just wow , guys .... and of course gals as well . And so two thumbs up and five gold stars , Massive big ups to this group . Ok then , sums it up for me .
