This movie is based on the book Suzanne Collins wrote that was released in 2020. Honestly, Collins did an incredible job with the world building of the original series that gives her so much to work with now. Many of the details about the government and history of Panem in the books weren't showcased in the original movies. This movie is diving a bit more into the background of Panem. It is incredible.

The reason I think it’s actually necessary to show this villain origin story is 1. It’s extremely relevant to todays world. 2. Anyone is capable of depravity. You just have to be in the right circumstances. You will LEARN who Coriolanus Snow is, and WHY he is the way he is. He’s the most interesting and complex character out of the whole franchise. And Lucy Gray play’s a massive role in why he is the way he is.

The thing I really like about this story actually is that Snow is not really pictured as the good guy, his character is very complicated and interesting I love it, I hope the movie will do the book justice but I'm really confident now that I've seen the trailer
@bailee912 Жыл бұрын
I know all the comments say this, but the point of this story is not “poor Snow” it’s an explanation on why Snow loathed/feared Katniss so much. In this book, teenage Snow is the same self-centered, power hungry Snow we all know and his relationship with Lucy Grey is strictly based on his own personal gains. It really is a fascinating story and it might humanize him in some ways because we are all humans and we tend to care about people, even if they are bad, but that was not the point. Collins accomplished what she set out to do with this book and I hope the movie is also able to articulate her vision accurately.
@nataliemarie8942 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say it humanises Coriolanus Snow- in the book, Collins makes it pretty obvious from fairly early on in his inner monologue that he's corrupt and selfish and just playing at being a decent human being so the story really shows how those seeds kind of bloom into what we see later on. It's very different to both Maleficent and Cruella which are more about what unfortunate external events caused them to take the path towards darkness that they took :)
@sarahcortese8558 Жыл бұрын
Read the Ballad of Songbird and Snakes, I promise you that you won’t be disappointed. It’s sets the tone for Katnisss story and bridges both timelines seamlessly. It’s not meant to be a stand alone story, it expands on the world of panem and the districts. Also- the books honestly don’t give you sympathy for Snow as a villain or character. However it does explain how the choices he made turned him into who he eventually became. If you’re interested in the movie trailer, you will love the book.

I think the distinction that is going to make this "humanize the villain prequel" endeavor work better than the examples you mentioned (at least on paper, we'll see about execution) is that this movie intends to be a direct tie-in to the previous four movies. Not an alternative perspective/reality/spin-off or whatever but a direct throughline. Not like "Cruella" or "Maleficent" that don't necessarily exist in the same continuity as their previous connected works. Think the relationship of the Hobbit movies to the LOTR trilogy instead. Everything that happens here needs to directly feed into and make sense in the context of the originals. Without having read the book, what I'm getting from this trailer is that this movie will end with a Snow who has gone through an arc that shapes him into our Snow. Whether he starts as a heroic character and goes through a corruption arc, or he starts out morally grey and just gets worse, I'm not sure. But either way, I think this movie is concerned with CREATING the Snow we know first and foremost. And that project necessitates starting by humanizing him since we already know him as a ruthless villain.

Nah, i want this, the story it's amazing, you just wait until you hear hear sing, she will sing a lot, remember that song "The Hanging Tree" that Katniss sing in Mongkinjay. Lucy Gray Baird created that song.
@mjm3091 Жыл бұрын
Tbh, Haymitch's story would need a major expansion to add anything to the franchise - he got picked, there was more people, he won by luck, he became alcoholic. That needs a theme. OG Hunger Games was about survival and rebellion. Song has been about the roots and explanation of why it all turned the way it did. Expanding on storylines we already saw a little in the original books (mentor program, Tigress and Snow's relation and so and so). Haymitch's story would be no more than just bloodfest unless they would add bigger storyline behind it. We already have seen district 12. And most work Haymitch has done was during Katniss times. I think Finnick's book would make somehow more sense? Giving us insight into different district, but also much different life of a victor. But then again I don't think the sexual exploitation in that would be appropriate for the target audience. At least not in the details the story would probably need to be cohesive.
@prathapkutty7407 Жыл бұрын
@@mjm3091 what sexual exploitation?
@mjm3091 Жыл бұрын
@@prathapkutty7407 Finnick was sold as prostitute to the highest bidder after he won. Mind you - he was one of the youngest winners ever, I believe at age 14? This would be really powerful plotline, but also definitely too graphic for teen literature. Collins was already kinda walking the borders, by including such disgusting thing... But then again we also had cannibalistic scenes and whole series is about kids getting ended by other kids.
@T_Murray Жыл бұрын
@@mjm3091 See, I would like to dive into any of the victors backstories. Haymitch is the one I would like to see given he also competed in a quarter quell and by so he had to go against double the amount of tributes. Prior to the games though he was tasked to aid his family after his dad was killed in the mines and by so he would add his name into the draw more because they got oil and wheat if I’m not mistaken, but him leaving his girlfriend and younger brother along with his mother to go compete and have him have little to no odds would be a great movie. Along with the aftermath of him becoming a victor, the capital thinking that he made them look stupid and by doing so started the whole killing the loved ones of anyone who defies the capital. The death of his family and girlfriend leads him to alcoholism which would address the addiction, trauma, survival, and responsibility along with the dictatorship that the capital is.

I always loved to hate Snow. I was intrigued by his character and wanted to know more about him. His origin story turned out to be greater then I had ever expected. It deepens the meaning of his every action in the trilogy. It’s not a redemption though. Corio is already corrupted at the beginning of the story. He values order, control, security and honor above else. Above love, above justice, above loyality. The only reason why he is innocent yet is because he has no power and no control over anything, including his life. The event of the movie, 10th hunger games and what follows kick starts what was bound to happend anyway. He was surounded by both good and evil people. Chosing good would mean fighting for equality but he wants to be superior. He only cares about himself and people who he views as his. He chose to become the Snow we know. Reading about that transformation is more desturbing then seeing his final form without context
