The books make it quite obvious that he's a manipulator and a selfish bastard from the beginning. He even interprets everything his friend does as a way of getting one over him because he can't believe that anyone would be purposefully kind to people and want to help them.

thank you for not going “lucy grey is the reason snow went bad”. snow was always bad, lucy was just the one that made him snap. it’s not the winds fault when a storm knocks a tree over, if the tree was weak then it’s only a matter of time before the tree can no longer keep its self rooted. some trees can withstand hurricane winds, others aren’t as well suited.

What's so interesting about the prequel is that Snow was 18 there. He became president at the age of 23. It was 5 years after he end of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. He didn't do that to Tigris entirely, his influence did but he didn't order it. Tigris did the body mods to herself to make her seem more like an untamed wild animal in defiance to her cousin. In the books, it shows just how selfish, paranoid and controlling he is because the books are in his POV so we get to hear his thoughts and feelings. In the books, it also tells us that after he grew with power he removed/erased anything having to do with Lucy Gray and the 10th Hunger Game. He wanted her history and influence completely erased like she never existed, hence why in the Hunger games Katniss is the only female winner from 12. What's hilarious is that he grew up hating 12 and anything to do with it. Almost 64 years later, here comes another little girl from the same district as his ex, defying him like his ex did and overthrowing everything he worked hard for. A lot of what he experienced here played later on. In Catching Fire, The idea of Katniss and Finnick getting tortured by the jabberjays came from the prequel. Snow hearing Sejanus screams sounding out repetitively by the Jabberjays was so traumatizing for him that now he turn it into a torture weapon. Just wanted to share a few things. I glad you guys enjoyed this, there will be a new book & movie coming out in 2025 about Haymitch's backstory which will be exciting because Haymitch survived the 2nd Quarter Quell/the 50th Hunger Games. I look forward to seeing more from you guys!! 💚💚

I loooove the scene with Reaper. Honestly, I wish they had made this two movies just because I would have loved to see more of the tributes, especially Reaper and Lamina. Would have been great to explore some of these tributes more to make their deaths hurt even more, similarly to how we got attached to Rue. And Reaper and Lamina were the most interesting to me outside of Lucy Gray. If I'm not mistaken, they even strike up some sort of alliance in the book.

lucy didn't become famous in 12 just after the hunger games, she was already an established singer and performer in the seam before going into the games snow banned music when he took power after seeing how powerful it could be. we see the power of music on people in the hospital scene, in the scene where they make dr. gaul take lucy out of the games, music is used to send messages between rebels, and then we even see the peacekeepers and the people of 12 (briefly) get along while enjoying music. snow realized how important and powerful music was, so that's why there's no music in the og hunger games series, snow made sure of it any and all music reminded him of lucy gray and how powerful she was and katniss knowing the old songs is already a sign of rebellion and the "old days" (popular theory is that maude ivory, the blonde singer girl, is katniss' grandma) this is also why snow is PISSED when katniss sings for rue in the first hunger games. she was so objectively defiant without even trying, and music got the people on her side

10:10 The funny part is that - it isn't extremely clear which one of them is the Songbird and which one is the Snake. As story progresses, we can see who is singing little pretty lies. 11:20 Roses are edible. The rose marmalade/jam is exquisite, especially inside a powdered donut. The darker variants are more flavourful, though - so she probably didn't get a lot of fun from this. 12:35 Fun fact - this is Wrocław's (Poland) Zoo. The arena they use in this movie is also based on Centenary Hall in that city. Both locations are right next to each other, so you can visit those on a same trip. Which is ironic how well that has worked (the book arena is also extremely similarly described, so either Collins visited it before or it's a giant coincidence). A lot of filming was done in Poland for this movie (and the rest mostly has been done in Germany, especially the Capitol scenes), which I feel like adds a lot of cool aura to it that you probably wouldn't get, if it was done in US or in a studio. The arena specifically - Centenary Hall was made between 1911-1913 and is a huge arena that still has a lot of cool events happening there, from basketball matches to opera. Or in this case - a place for 24 tributes to fight to death (or die to vats of rainbow coloured snakes). 14:55 Mind you - in books this is one of the few Hunger Games that Katniss can't find a recording of. Also next year is when the Mags (old woman from the second, the one who was in district with Finnick) won - keep in mind the shark monsters at the end of the movie... Also as Snow got more in power - more ideas were added, like the whole winner tour. Lucy Gray really got herself the short stick. 15:50 This is futuristic USA that flopped after unknown war. Look at your politics now, there are bad people of all looks and abilities. 16:20 Mind you this is how world always worked, until Germans and colonial powers, really changed the rules. The segregation was more nuanced - more nationality and ethnicity based, sometimes based just on religion or language or monetary status (which you can see to this day in countries not based on colonialism like majority of central, eastern and southern Europe and half of Asia and some countries in Africa). Even during colonial times, the situation of black people didnt necessarily stem from their appearance - but it was a consequence of western countries taking control of the Africa. And then that created the stereotypes and further image that shifted into modern discrimination. Specifically German's pseudoscience on nonexistent races, which then got further twisted by "American Dream" (originally a lot more "white" people were considered second rate people, even in US - it's just more recent discrepancies and simplifications to just basic characteristics like eye shape or skin colour - that gave form to modern discrimination). 45:45 Jessup was also a good kid, who cared for Lucy (he literally got sick because of that) - this is what he would have wanted, if he wasn't already far gone.

Just finished blazing 💨 Looking forward to this, also, all of the movies are book accurate for the most part, but BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES misses a lot of stuff from the book, my biggest pet peeve is them changing how the 10th hungergames went, it played out very differently in the book and it didn't end when the snakes came into the arena, Lucy gray even uses one of the snakes to kill someone, also in the books Lucy gray accidentally poisons Wovey, instead of Dill so I recommend all hungergames lovers to read the books!

francis lawrence, who directed the hunger games movies, said that he immediately knew he wanted rachel to play lucy gray. rachel (lucy gray) made her acting debut as maria in west side story when she was 17 and is now the main character in a broadway play. she also sang all the songs for this movie live while filming & actually took lessons to get lucy grays appalchian accent right. in the book of this movie we get a lot more insight of how ruthless snow really is in such young age. we also get an insight that snow basically erased the 10th hunger games from existence bc of lucy gray. there is also a theory that maude ivory (lucy grays cousin) is katniss grandmother, hence katniss knowing the songs (like hanging tree) in the book lucy gray also sings „deep in the meadow“ to maude ivory, which is the same song katniss sang to rue in the first hunger games movie. if i remember correctly, the snake that bit corio at the end was confirmed to be not poisonous, which would confirm the theory of her wanting to test if he would proof her right about losing control and going after her and he did. the end of the movie is supposed to be a never answered question. if you listen to „the ballad of lucy gray“ you’ll understand better

45:25 YES rabies is referred to as hydrophobia ("fear of water"). this is predominantly because of its symptoms in the later stages of an infection in which the infected person has difficulty swallowing, shows panic when presented with liquids to drink, and cannot quench their thirst. Also rabies is a death sentence, the disease causes death (once infection is established) and there is no cure. (although there is a series of shots you can take once you've been exposed to rabies to prevent the infection from taking hold). I believe that's part of Snow's hidden plea to the girl to kill the guy off coz he is gonna die anyway, and in the book he and the girl had worked together to make a name and keep sponsors coming in for district 12's tributes. so asking her to continue doing the favour even now to keep at least one of their tributes alive (so they can share the fame or name that comes with a winning tribute) instead of wasting Lucy's life for a guy thats about to die.

I’ve been looking for a comment on this, but Snow has beef with Billy Taupe because he’s partially the reason why she got reaped for the hunger games in the first place. They didn’t explain it super well, but the mayors daughter fixed the reaping so Lucy Gray would get killed in the games and she could have Billy all to herself. Hence the “sing your way out of this one Lucy Gray.” If you listen to the lyrics during her performance with the guitar right before the games, she explains the situation. ALSO Lucy wrote the hanging tree song about that situation where the jabberjays were screaming that guys last words. There’s a line where she says “Are you coming to the tree where dead men called out for his love to flee.” They depicted that in that scene. He was screaming for her to run. Even bigger reason why that song and Katniss would’ve haunted Snow in the future. Because people didn’t know that song like that, I’d imagine only the Covey did.

Theres a theory me and others who watched this have that i think honestly might be true. We never see Lucy Gray again. Snow becomes president and wipes the record of Lucy Gray’s hunger games, which is why everyone thinks Haymitch is the first winner from 12. So where did Lucy Gray go? Well, theres a theory that Lucy Gray ended up running to 13 and discovering it as it was just beginning to be built. Theres a theory that Lucy Gray is President Coins mother, and Lucy Gray died or took on a different name before Coin became the leader of the revolution. Thats why Coin hated Snow so bad, not just because of what he was doing to the districts, but also because of what her mom, Lucy Gray, told her he did to her. Now, Coin immediately realized why Snow hated Katniss, because Coin too believed Katniss to be just like her mother. That builds so much upon why coin wanted Snow dead so badly and we she wanted Katniss to be the one to do it. Because she wanted Snow to pay for what he did to her mother by having him die by the one person who reminds him of her. I personally believe this theory because if you look it up theres more in depth explanations, and because it really add to why Coin became what she did and how her anger toward Snow, on her mothers behalf, was the reason she became such a bad person and why Katniss killed her. She was obsessed with revenge and it got her killed.

I know you guys didn't confuse Autism with Down Syndrome!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I just love watching your videos, learning English with you guys is so fun, I can't get enough of "golly" 🤌🏻 The movie version paints a way more sympathetic portrait of Snow, in the book he is absolutely disgusted by anything or anyone "district" including Sejanus believing they're all "savages". Even Lucy Gray is not "district" in his mind because she's Covey. He is hateful through and through in the book, we miss that part in the movie because it's mostly inner monologue but this man gets mad at BUGS in the meadow, he could NEVER not live in the Capitol. Also fun popular theory, Katniss's father was known for his incredible singing voice (even the birds would fall silent and listen to him), so he may be related to the Covey! Every copy of the 10th Hunger Games was destroyed, so no one is supposed to remember Lucy Gray by Katniss's Games, but as we see, her songs were still passed on in 12. Imagine the look on Snow's face watching the "runt girl" from district 12 singing Lucy Gray's songs and making them anthems of the Rebellion 🤭 anyways thanks for the great content as always!!

Yeah, people with rabies become scared of water. Even if they try to drink it, they'll choke on it. It's interesting and sad at the same time.

That's awful😢. Do you know if they're able to drink other things and it won't affect them? Milk, juice, soda, the sort?

Would highly recommend reading the book cuz the game was much different than what they did in the movie (i.e. how the tributes died & the order of their deaths besides brandy & marcus)

also not saying SNOW is innocent in any way BUT He sent that bird because he thought that Sejanus's dad may buy the boy's way out again. ( im glad u guys got it on the head with this comment "he only thinks of himself and his own good" he is quite narcisstic, selfish and PROUDDDDD) and if you read the books, you'll see how immoral he reasons. anyways that's on top of the fact that he never liked Sejanus, hated him, his family and how his family (a district family) became rich whilst Snow's lost everything from the war. Bro kept his enemy closer.

The Lavina girl that's too high, its coz thats her skill if i recall correctly from the books. her district in good with some sort of climbing and that's why she climbed easily (u noted that the holes on the pillar were perfect for her feet, na its just supposed to be her ability). was a bit dissapointed with the pillar coz from d books, my perception of the pillar was a lot more complex and a lot more taller in length.

Addison the word you're looking for when somebody has the one eye of a different color than the other that is a heterochromia apparently a lot of actors have it but it's kind of subtle so it's not super noticeable like the shade of brown or blue or green or whatever but in some people it's a completely different color on the other side like one side is Brown and the other is blue or you know blue and green or green and brown something like that it's much more common in pets than in people like for instance in Huskies it's very very common for them to have at least one blue eye the other one might be blue it might be brown but it's uncommon and other breeds but in cats it's typically like no Brown it's typically blue and one eye Green in the other

Wasn’t this movie still set in a version of our world’s future?
@chloestarshine5 күн бұрын
Yeah, it's funny when they say 'back then' because this is not the past, it's still the future, they just use retro aesthetics which I guess makes sense to go back to old vibes when you're rebuilding a society

Theory that you can find on super Carlin Brothers there's actually several theories about who Lucy Baird is related to in the modern hunger games there are some people who think she grew up to be coin I don't buy that for a second there are other people who think she might have been the paternal grandmother of katniss I prefer the theory that her covey member maude Ivory was katniss's grandmother

Perhaps not likeable by the end, but understandable. Please watch Attack on Titan for a similar us v them thoughtful story. In SUB please 😅 no matter what anyone says it's very well done & overall most reactors miss a lot not listening in their native language. Plus subtitles can "spoil" important moments a few seconds ahead when for those that watched it live week to week we had to stop & dark "WHAT? WHAT DID WE HEAR?" or worse THEY MISSED IT because it was so quick - but that's what makes it just a great show, the amount of info either slowly given or suddenly massively dumped on you.

Bro people saying things about the singing, it's fu, like, katniss mom fall in love with katniss dad because of his singing, katniss sings too though, birds have a really important part in the story, and what does a Bird do? And games are TV show, what better way to entertain and make ppl like you than singing

As a both a sista and a sister in Christ, I am saddened and ashamed of your reaction to the black female character's natural hair. You made fun of her. Her silver fro was beautiful. How can you make fun of our hair when that is the way God made us. Y'all need to be careful of your tongues and how you think on the inside. You need to search your hearts. There was never the jokes for the Naath light skinned young lady on GOT. I doubt you will respond. I am disappointed. Do better. I watch your content and I sub. I am reconsidering. I doubt you will reply. I hope you do

Shes also snow white and has been really problematic for Disney lol
@oq11067 күн бұрын
yeah but I figure that's a different problem. And given all the fun performances in this (I really, really love Gall, Dinklage is doing good too), I wouldn't let the snow white thing influence my opinion on this movie. Which I feel like get a little underrated because of the part 3 pacing.

Problematic by calling Snow White lame (which she is)
@cece24996 күн бұрын
Problematic, because she said the romance wasn’t going to be the main plot line and that it’s an outdated movie (which it is), or because she was scared of the movie as a kid? The double standards y’all have is crazy, because no one cares that Harrison ford hates Star Wars, or twilight guy hates twilight. Rachel was speaking facts imo.

@@totalknightmare yeah exactly! People find it funny when it comes to them literally hating franchises that made them more successful, but Rachel saying something that’s actually very tame is an issue.
