Wow, great video. I was very happy to see this pop on my KZbin list of videos! I got a copy of the first edition KS very cheap about a year and a half ago at a very cheap price. The guy head all the quibbles about the game, and decided to almost give it away. I believe it is because of the lack of options, but I really like pirates game like Dead Reckoning and Merchants & Marauders. And I've been looking at Captain Log's as well. I read and watch the different reviews, heard about the fan fixes, and felt there is a potential hidden gem there. And like I mentioned earlier, the risk was low, it was practically given to me. So last year, i heard they were planning a second edition and I decided to wait. And now, depending on pricing, I want the 2nd edition rules, I might get the extra new content, it will all depend on price. But I'm very happy to hear your presentation. I was ready to have to work for it, and you made it clear. But, I'm willing to do it, because this as so much promises. The Sailing/Port/Adventure sequence is amazing and not done by many games. I'm waiting for the campaign to start to confirm my backing of it. And I really hope they heard your video and they will work on fixing at least, a couple of the issues. As always, great presentation!

I bought this 2nd hand cheap and printed updated rules a few month ago… hope this are the „new“ rules 🤪 and thank you for this review… i think i will sink my teeth into that one… love the theme, love dungeon crawlers… and i don’t fear the crunch… seems to be a game for me😂🤣 Thank you 🙏🏻

I came to the same conclusions as you, Will, and I never looked back. I made that Voyage Phase player aid on BGG for the reason to help others make sense of it, that's how much I love this game and want others to know what an awesome and complete pirate experience this game offers. I do wish as well that they'd clean up the rules a bit but hey, maybe that's also typical of that dirty ole pirate life 🤭

Thanks for the review. I’m still interested in it, but clearly if even now with all the people pointing out what can be improved, they dont change anything (and apparentlty thats what is going to happen, based on their comments on the next campaign on gamefound) it’ll be without me, no doubt I dont have time for a clanky game

Excellent analysis. Thanks HG. I have the previous edition gathering dust. I am torn whether to get any update pack in the crowdfunding, or to cut my losses. I guess it comes down to - was the overall story / campaign good? If that's strong, thrn I think it will be worth it.

I still have it on my shelf. Not played because of the attitude of the creators. I have printed out all 3 rulebooks from their website and MAYBE one day I will go back to it...

I had the first edition, but couldn´t manage to understand the rules well, especially the voyage phase. The interaction with the creator on the KS comments was "unpleasant" to say the least. So I sold it, and TBH by watching your review I got the feeling that it has not improved that much, I am so tired of games that demand a lot of effort and time to get the rules right - not because they are complex, but because of poorly written rulebooks and unclear gameplay.

I had exactly the same experience. This was one of my first big Kickstarters I backed and I love pirate themed games. But after reading the rulebook multiple times and trying to get it played with two different player groups I just gave up. Too many rules and one of the worst written rulebooks I ever came across.

It has rules for how the mutiny works, but during the voyage phase if a non captian character winds up with more popularity than the ship has morale a mutiny is automatically triggered

I think the quality of life misses after all the feedback they've had for years (I'll leave the rulebook/card/adventure book errors/updating alone) is just depressing. We all WANT this to be the game, but the developers seem to feel like they THINK they've done it and don't have to go further. I know in the original Spanish version their fans are pretty happy with everything as-is...

i was definitely surprised when i sent them a list of things i was going to bring up that there was no thought of "well...we could make those available to the new backers"

I would like to have this game, it was made for me. However, I miss the Kickstarter campaign. If it comes to retail, I might have a chance to pick it then, Hopefully, they come out with an expansion to address all the "quality of Life" issues. I guess we will see.
