I agree with everything you said! The story is the unsung hero of this game but you have to be ok with a dark story! So glad you are enjoying it!

Nice review - thanks! How manageable did you find it, presumably solo? Did you use companions? I’ve just got a bit more painting to do before it hits the table. Can’t play with bare plastic!

I play it with two full heroes and two companions. I think that is just perfect. Though it would be manageable w 4, but a lot more brain burn-y

It just gets better.. Only VERY few duds in the fights, and the story becomes just awesome. I just hope we get a ending worth the epic game. I'm 3 games off from completing.

Cannot agree more with all your points. The lack of a town token is really weird given the deluxe nature of the game but ultimately unimportant. What really impresses me is how functional the game play is. A lot thought obviously went into making the game easy to set-up and put away and to find the things you need. I having being play 4 characters solo. It has work really well after I made a tray to hold the battle flow cards. The ruleset is also amazingly polished and clean.

I've seen some of those trays online. They are super cool. I'm tempted to chase some down, but so far have resisted

Nope, just a foam board piece the same length as the character boards then 5 strips glued on to make 4 sections. The cards do not lay flat to save room. Not very pretty but a lot less space.

I do find the character designs so engaging that I want to replay a lot with different combinations and strategies/difficulty. Hope it's worthwhile.

Can’t believe you’re whining about the diversity. It’s a game with clear roots in Tolkien esq Anglo Norse roots. aka white. I hate thinking in racial terms but you guys have to racialise everything. And saying that the women are “just as good as the men”, that’s quite the self report lol. I’m really sad I don’t see myself in the bear man or the tree lady... but somehow I will cope.
