Why do people think pirates just buried treasure? Pirates were people, who liked having money as much as the next guy. They engaged in a lot of activities that soaked up that money fairly quickly, gambling, drinking, women, and provisioning their ships. If they buried treasure, it was VERY short term. Chances were, they sold off everything they got as fast as they could. Then they enjoyed the proceeds.
@davehoward2225 күн бұрын
Lots of people buried things in them days,Britains covered in buried treasure hoards for instance.
@user-zm6wk5zx2d23 күн бұрын
Depends on whos loot it use to be. Many Kings or Queens would use their military, hire privateers or other pirates to find you. 😮
@mspicer326223 күн бұрын
@@user-zm6wk5zx2d no, it doesn't. see, gold melts. It still does too. If you steal a bunch of gold that's shaped like something recognizable, you melt it into something else. usually bars. then you sell it. if pirates buried it, it was close to where they melted everything down, prior to selling it. Edit: It also depended on which kind of pirate you were. The "conventional" ones often flew a variation of the Jolly Roger, or just the Naval Ensign of a nation at-war with the target (English vs Spanish). The ones you didn't want to run into? They flew a simple red flag. That meant they would give no quarter, nor take any themselves. Everybody on the target ship was going to die, or they would have to kill all of the incoming pirates. Pirates who flew a red-flag left no witnesses.
@mspicer326223 күн бұрын
@@davehoward22 most of the hoards I've heard of in Britain are Anglo-Saxon, Roman, that sort of thing. They were also often ritualistic, ceremonial things, like gifts to the earth. Again, pirates liked to have money, to pay for vices and supplies for their ship. Burying stuff just wasn't putting money in their pockets. Anything recognizable that they felt they couldn't sell right away was broken down to its constituent bits, and sold off piecemeal.

Thinking of the time period completely opposite to now we’re wealth isn’t always obvious. And easily hidden. And that’s major wealth. U couldn’t have just made use of it. They’d hang them straight away , there was nobility. And poor. Poor just couldn’t come out and say here I am

it never makes sense for a pirate to burry treasure they did not do that ever, the only one that claimed he did this was captain kidd and he definitely lied to safe his neck literally. Kissler was scammed by those sailor grifters, classic scam one befriends you uses alcohol to cloud your judgement the old sailor comes in to change the subject towards the scam. There is no reason for them to give him this info they are selling snake oil. Who sells a treasure map? are you crazy? comes home exited: ''hey honey i bought this treasure map from this nice old pirate man at the market today"

Has anyone ever actually found any buried treasure--other than archeology and grave goods? Why would anyone stick their wealth in the ground or on a deserted island and then leave it and then die before they come back for it? Why not just take it home or keep it?
I can't help but wonder what happened to the gentleman whose grandfather owned the map. Did this gentleman who searched for 17 years for the treasure steal the map from the other guy? What happened to the other guy? I wonder if he cheated him out of it. And if he gets me that's why he never found the treasure.

I paused after the tale of the fool of Cocos Island. Noting much of the video is ahead of me, I continue on. Now I'm the fool of KZbin. I seek the treasure of a fool who succeeded in the quest and found unknown riches buried where no man dreamed. Is it possible? I have difficulty finding my car keys, but I pray that someone somewhere found God's smile and died laughing at the world with fame and fortune! After all, Cecil Rhodes isn't the only man who achieved this dream, right? Now, to continue...

A study in human psychology. What does it take for a man to break every vow and corrupt every moral he's ever had in the hope for greed and early financial gain. What does it take? Well for this man...all it took was rumor, speculation, and a found note. Most of us are a lot closer to abandoning all of our codes and morals than we'd ever be willing to admit...or we're even personally aware of. But this man all it took was a note... and he became a grave robber and a sneak and a liar and a theif. I'm not even sayying he was wrong for doing it...simply saying interesting study in human nature.
