The early stories in Genesis are Grand Myths, Hebrew interpretations of Mesopotamian origin and Great Flood stories, until we arrive at the time of Abraham circa 2,000 BCE, when we can accurately date the time of the Patriarchs, Moses and the Exodus, and the early Kingdom of Israel and its downfall and Babylonian Captivity, the Two Temples, and so on, to the Diaspora of the Jews in 70 CE due to their rejection of their Messiah, and the Conquest of Israel by Rome. But it was not the end of the Jewish people, they were dispersed to the four winds, but reunited in 1948, as a nation again, in fulfillment of Bible Prophecy. Now, in the Israel War today, they will eventually embrace their Messiah, who will come to save them, and the entire world. This is what the Bible speaks to me, as a Bible student and scholar, having studied the sacred texts, history, and archaeology for more than 50 years.

I have read and watched about Sumerian Mythology that had the origin of the Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden. As the Genesis says Abram was called by God to move to Cannan from Ur, it meant there were people living in Mesopotamia who would have been the origins of the Israelites. Interestingly, the recent researches show that the older civilisation than Mesopotamia existed in the now Turkey, Gobekel Tepe and other Northern Turkey. More researches are needed.

Why mock the search? The modern scientific team involved in the search is serious. I'm an atheist, but I know myths are usually at least in part the retelling of real events. In the case of Eden, the loss, due to rising waters (climate change), of lands hunter-fatherers thrived on, and the need to move to poorer lands and start an agrarian lifestyle. The temptation, sin, and god stuff is added for religious purposes.

The Book of Genesis places Eden in an actual geological location, where the Pishon, Gihon, Tigris, and Euphrates meet near the Persian Gulf. The documentary doesn't presume the stories in genesis are literally true, and actually focuses more on the wealth of king solomon described in the Book of Kings. The makers are merely using historical and traditional references to find the pre-civilization location said to have been fertile and rich in natural resources. "The Bible" isn't strictly a religious book. It's an ancient text and window into pre and early history in the cradle of civilization through the eyes of a tribal nation during that time. Biblical archeology is a secular field of study, not a religious one. Dismissing the the Bible as worthless simply because you don't approve of religion is ignorant and bigoted. Don't let your pet hates prevent you from gaining knowledge. If you think you know everything, you'll never learn anything.

It's interesting that the Wikipedia page on the veil of Veronica doesn't list the Manoppello image as even being considered one of the real candidates, and they have some other details about that story that weren't included in this video. It would be interesting to see the test results on the Byssus. While Byssus can't be painted, it can be permanently stained with lemon juice. I still think the Garden of Eden was in northern Africa before the ice age. The Sphinx was left over from the old empire and pretty much everything else is destroyed and/or buried under the sands of the Sahara. The pyramids were built after the floods and looking at satellite images of Africa, it really looks like a lot of water flowed over the continent at some point. At the end of the ice age, there was great flooding everywhere and the empire there was destroyed forever and the knowledge of that great empire lost to time. We have no record of this empire other than the vacant structures beneath the sands of the Sahara that come and go with sand storms. You're not going to find those rivers anymore but the Nile used to flow much farther west and there were many inland seas. The Epic of Gilgamesh says Dilmun was underwater at that time. In "Enmerkar and the Lord of Aratta" is says that the ziggurat in Uruk was built before Dilmun was settled. That correlates with the flooding of Africa. If the Eye of the Sahara was the city of Atlantis, then this would also corroborate Solon's account that only the tips of reeds could be seen above the water in this area after the flood. The Sumerian King's list has much longer life-times for people in the old kingdom, maybe there was once a plant growing there that was believed to slow aging? Abraham came from Sumer, but the Sumerians were not a Semitic people - thought the Akkadians were. It seems that massive droughts caused the fall of the Akkadian empire and the Akkadians had assimilated with the Sumerians. I don't doubt that the story of Eden comes from the Sumerians but it could be a part of a more ancient history of a world that has since been lost. I would like to see evidence from the bottom of the Persian gulf of an older civilization there before popping the champagne. At least the Wikipedia page on Dilmun does mention the work of Juris Zarin.
