After the opening weekend of the Championship, All-Ireland winners Paul Murphy and James Skehill joined Will O'Callaghan to eat some humble pie after Waterford's win against Cork following their confident predictions of a Rebel victory at Walsh Park.
The lads also break down Limerick's comeback victory over League champions Clare, where the drive for five continued with a stunning display in the last 15 minutes. But what went wrong for a Clare team that had led by nine points?
Dublin's unbeaten Championship run against Wexford has stretched to six years after two late goals secured a share of the spoils at Wexford Park, while Kilkenny have some ikey injury concerns ahead of their trip to Galway.
The Hurling Pod is with thanks to Bord Gais Energy, proud sponsors of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship.

Really didn't expect that yesterday in Walsh Park but what a day and delighted to see we went back to a style and structure that allows our bigger players to shine, hopefully more to come against Tipp in 2 weeks time and we'll be nearly guaranteed 3rd spot

Davy set the expectation for Waterford so low, now everyone is acting like he led them out of the desert after they beat Cork. Remember, Waterford were All Ireland finalists in 2017 & 2020, semi-finalists in 2021 and most peoples tip (rightly so) to topple Limerick, and League champions in 2022. Their ambition should be much higher than beating a flakey Cork team.

Leinster can be a funny province. It's not as straightforward as saying Galway and Kilkenny will both beat Wexford and Dublin, and Wexford and Dublin will both beat Antrim and Carlow... Wexford have beaten Kilkenny several times in recent years. Dublin often give Galway a very tough game and have beaten them a few times in recent years, drawing with them last year. And out of the bottom 2, Antrim drew with the Dubs last year, and Westmeath drew and beat Wexford over the last 2 years.

Pulling and dragging is one thing but both Cleary & Hogan were wrestling Gillane & Flannagan to the ground long before ball was coming in so they could not do runs and no option for lads outside to deliver. And no, it's not "both of them at it". Not in a forwards interest to be at it. In 2022 Munster final, that was the argument put forward by Dalo. But then Cleary got pulled & yellow card. End of "both of them at it", no more holding or pulling hurley's and Gillane got 3 points from play. Go figure? Do refs ever do debriefs with their umpires?

Why do pundits and supporters pay any attention to the league.Totally irrelevant in the white heat of the Munster Hurling championship .

Its useful to see if there is anyone new fighting to come in to the squad. O'Dalaigh put his hand up in the league and got a good run out in the championship at the weekend and was trusted to do a job. Cathal O'Neill also showed great form in the league and got a start yesterday. Fergal O'Connor also showed he can potentially cut it. Not totally irrelevant.

The All ireland Champions won 3 of the last 5 leagues. When kilkenny had their dominance, they won it 7 in 10 years. You get a gauge where your team is at when they do well in the league.

@johnwall1989 that's wrong. Since the round robin championship system started in 2018 the All-Ireland/League double has been completed twice. Limk in 2020 & 2023. The 2020 Munster semi-final between Limk & Clare doubled as the League final. A Munster team does not need two championship intensity games - League semi-final/final a couple of weeks before they start 4 championship games in the Munster round robin. When KK dominated the league / All-Ireland they had to win two games to win the Leinster title. It was probably an advantage to have two championship like games in the guise of league semi-final/league in that era as they were so much better than their provincial opposition. Winning the league is not a good way to start your championship season under the current system.

@raymondgilbourne112 Completely disagree, and so does John kiely. By the way, he picks his team he tried every year to win the league. Does he know less than we do?

That was unexpectedly measured from Davy Fitz, fair play to Waterford. Like ye pointed out lads, it’s mad to think Clare or Cork’s season could be dusht this weekend. It’d be a shame either which way. Edit: I felt Cahalane’s cards were harsh, specifically the second yellow.

The second yellow was blatant he swipes across him from behind, catching the fingers. The first one is never a yellow he's committed to the shoulder, and the lad drops to his knees before contact. It's harsh red, but the second yellow is every day of the week.
@stabcitySB
@stabcitySB 5 күн бұрын
@@johnwall1989 ya that is a fair point, you are right it’s a yellow in isolation it’s just the red felt harsh for me. I don’t think it was dirty play, these things happen in the game. You might correct me but if memory serves he swiped and only had one hand on the hurl like a flick more than pulling into the lad. I do feel for Cork and obviously Munster is vicious but they’re a good team and it’s tough to he one foot out the door after 2 weeks. Unless they beat Tipp, and Tipp beat Waterford and 3rd place comes down to PD.

The chances of getting into the square after the ball are very slim in these situations.

Gillane 1 on 1 with the keeper at the very start, a step outside the penalty area and pulled back by the hips by clery. A guy doesn’t have to be rugby tackled for it to be a black card. I haven’t heard any pundit mention it.

I see comments like this about cork from limerick fans in recent years, and 99% of us can't understand it 😂 where poor at the moment and very happy for limericks success. Once it's not tipp in munster and kilkenny in the all ireland where happy for limerick to keep winning.
