From the producers of Bowling for Columbine, Fahrenheit 9/11 and Generation Iron, THE HURT BUSINESS details the lives of various martial arts superstars, including Ronda Rousey and Jon Jones, competing in the fastest growing sport in the world and the struggles and triumphs that accompany all careers in cage fighting.
Besides featuring both legends, such as Georges St-Pierre, and up-and-comers in the sport the film covers the history of mixed martial arts fighting, from the coliseums of ancient Greece to modern day venues such as the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, all expertly narrated by Kevin Costner.
Themes of injury both mental and physical are explored and the question is raised; is it worth it to sacrifice one's mind and body for sport?

I remember when he had his start. Gary gave beatings, but he also took beatings. That brutal kick he took from Gilbert Ivel comes to mind.

The fighters could be if they could stay away from bad influences. My parents never had the income that these guys had, but are sitting on mid 7 figures. I have also never had the income that these guys have, but at 42 am sitting on (very) low 7 figures with no mortgage or anything of the sort. The promoters in sports have always made the money until the sports get mature enough that the athletes get organized, but the bigger problem for athletes is counting their chickens before they're hatched and listening to people who don't have their best interests in mind. Countless athletes around here get taken advantage of investing in stupid things like car dealerships that aren't already established, or buying and running restaurants. Beyond just things like spending money on expensive toys, houses and wasting it gambling.

most guys don't fight like Gary, he was reckless fighting with his hands down letting guys punch him and this is the price he's paying

If football is now conscious of head trauma, MMA, UFC and etc must have provisions for ensuring the gladiators earn enough and also prevent resulting deseases. Follow Big Daddy on twitter @garyhgoodridge, he posts lots of positive messages, daily.

no I don't think anyone wants to see people get knocked out like that, they like seeing fighters clobber each other but they don't like seeing them hit the ground and go stiff as a board, watching henderson ko bisping for example was difficult to watch, it would be ideal just to see punches weaken a fighter just enough to get them submitted or have them stagger around just enough for the ref to jump in, but yeah it's hard watching shins smacking faces, it really feels like we're still in the early days of the sport and much more things will be outlawed in terms of striking, people that have followed the sport hate seeing fighters get knocked out fully, because we all know that most of the time that fighter will never be the same after that, a lot of times that's just the end of that fighter and it's downhill from there
