Why make firefighting so complicated? You are wasting precious tank water. Just stick it inside to soak the burning material. The added pressure it creates will Push the smoke and heat out the window.

They are demonstrating that by doing the opposite you are creating a LOW pressure inside the room which suck in air from the rest of the structure into the fire room which COOLS it. Cooling it drops the temps and pyrolysis decreases. Look at the drop in temperature recorded by the TIC. It dropped from the 900sF down to 200sF. That alone increases the survivabililty of possible victims in other areas of the structure. It also helps to not push the fire and heat into the structure. Not to mention the decrease in water damage in the structure. I forgot to mention it also decreases the available oxygen which is the Oxidizing agent in the fire tetrahedron.

How come I have never seen this in use in 15 years of studying these KZbin fire videos? Put an adjustable nozzle on a tight cone and soak down the burning material. The gasses will still exit the window, and you will use half the water.

Armchair firefighters will do anything to throw away new tools for the toolbox. Yes, obviously this will not be used for every single situation, but having the ability to hydrovent without needing to make entry saves a lot of time, and can also make conditions a lot more tenable for interior teams. What’s wrong with that?
