Speaking on the security of express mode being off or on, one thing I have noticed is if you use this lock with express mode OFF it will of course require you to authenticate before unlocking the door with your phone, but does not require anything with my watch as long as its on your wrist with the passcode entered. Very convenient and still secure as if the watch was taken off your wrist, it would need the passcode.

Fantastic video! I’ve lived for over a year now without a smart lock and admittedly, I really miss it. I had an NFC tag that I could just tap when my phone was in my pocket to automatically open the door. It was extremely convenient.

So, I bought this lock, and I'm a bit puzzled by something. I had NO problem getting the lock to interface with Apple Homekit. However, it does not seem to want to interface with the Schlage Home app. I keep getting messages via the Schlage app telling me it cannot find any wifi network even though it's maybe about 8 ft away from a wifi extender. I know the extender works fine because I can access it via wifi on my iPhone. The lock also appears in my router's list of attached devices. So, why the Schlage app keeps telling me it can't find any wifi seems very strange.

I can’t get the lock to pair with Apple Home app (it pairs fine with the Schlage app). What phone model and IOS are you using? I have an iPhone 11 and latest iOS.

For the encode plus, you get 2 "boxes" correct? And they both go on the outside right? One has the numbers and the other has the handle. So, what goes on the inside when you want to lock up the door and how do you open up the door from the inside? When you enter the code, does the door pop open or do you have to use the handle? And do you have to use the WiFi or can you just use the keypad with a code?

There’s an outside unit with the keypad and an inside unit with a thumbturn. This replaces the deadbolt only and not the handle. A door handle of some sort is still required to open the door. You can unlock the door with the keypad or wirelessly

The non plus is pretty readily available. But also stocks fluctuates often for both, this was at the time of recording.

Great video. I love the HomeKey feature, however I am curious to understand if the lock will run in both Apple Home and Google Assistant at the same time? I.e. MY car has Google operating system and we are google /next architecture throught the house... we still need to hey google things!

I am wanting to get 3 of these for my house. One for each door. How can I get them to all share the same physical (standard) key? Do I have to get them configured at a locksmith?

Yes, you need a locksmith to rekey the locks to be keyed alike.

My biggest concern is the absence of a door sense that will tell you if the door is closed or ajar. Lock may locked buy door is wide open.

How exactly do I know if it's taking advantage of Thread? I have an Apple TV and multiple HomePods in my house. Is there anything in particular that I need to do to assign one of these devices as the 'Thread Hub'? Or just set up in Home and all of that stuff takes care of itself automatically?

the thread connection is all done automatically. you can check to see if the device is using thread by using an app called Eve

I need some help! I installed this lock few weeks ago but have been unable to add it to my home app. I dont have a home pod and i am trying to add this lock to homekit so that i can use a homekey with my phone and apple watch. I open the home app and do add accessory, it reads the lock but then i get an error saying “homekit accessory is not ready. Power on and off blah blah blahh” I have tried powering off and even reset the lock but still no lock

Why do you think the battery is lasting longer? Does the lock default to Thread radio and therefore last longer than the version that will only connect over WIFI? I bought the lock because AirBNB now allows guests to have a code automatically sent to them when they book my AirBNB. However, this only works through the Schlage lock. Since the Schlage app requires WIFI do you think I will get worse battery life, or will the lock continue to communicate over Apple Homekit once the code is created through the Schalge login?

there's many, many variables to battery life for a smart lock. connecting to homekit, connection type and more all impact battery life. thread is a low power technology that allows for longer battery life.

Just got my order from Home Depot. Is it normal that key hole doesn’t seem to fit the body of the rest of the lock exactly?. I can see the silver on the inside of the lock from the key hole cylinder.

It took me a couple tries of resetting the lock to get this work. The aqara lock I used later worked right away

Have you tried the connectivity over Bluetooth even if it is setup over matter? The scenario I'm thinking of is Internet is down or maybe a power outage. If Bluetooth is still an option then at least you can still unlock your door.

Been having a lot of issues with the setup of mine. It’ll go through the setup via the Schlage App just fine. But then when trying to sync it to HomeKit, you can’t put it back into pairing mode and when I try and tap my phone to the back to connect it, I keep getting the “Accessory Not Ready to Connect”. Really pulling my hair out here. Hopefully I didn’t get a faulty one here?

For a home hub? Either one can be used. For a thread border router, only HomeKit mini and supported Apple TV 4k

Brian -- The Schlage Encode Plus will work with both Apple and Android phones. The difference is the Apple Home Key feature (that lets you lock and unlock by holding your phone up to the lock) only works with iPhone. Android users will need to tap the lock icon in the Schlage app.

Got one question: can you set new door open codes remotely, presumably using the Schlage app, or do you need to be local (I.e. on the same WiFi as the lock) to set those codes? I am running an Airbnb, and being able to set and disable guest codes remotely would be a huge benefit for me.

Yes the home app. When you add people it just shows an area to put a name. But this does equate a to an email address. Just a name. Then when you hit add it ask for a contact bit just sends them an access code. Not an invite.

got it to work after adding an Apple TV for hub. Everyone is setup and work on all devices except for my Ultra. Still wont open the door.

Update. I was not able to invite my family members until I setup a hub. Also got my watch to work by doing a hard reset on the watch. All good now.

I know Matter devices can communicate via WiFi, Bluetooth, or Thread, but I thought Thread is only for Matter devices.. apparently not.. Thanks so much for confirming. I really want to upgrade my Schlage Connect Zwave for one that has: Matter+Thread, HomeKey, and compatible with multiple eco systems SmartThings/Homekit/Google. Think will still have to wait. Heard Schlage developing a Matter compatible lock, but release date unannounced still.
