The shots of the original driving up and down the street after the restoration were done in my hometown, where the remains of Isdera are located. When I was still living there I was driving past the shop every now and then to check out various Imperators, Porsches and other race classics in the showroom. One day by chance I caught a glimpse of the car before its restoration. This made me check out the location more and more until one day I spotted the finished car in the shop again. Knowing that I have basically seen the 1-of-1 version of one my childhood heroes and have witnessed its resurrection is something I still find incredible until this day and I just wanted to share that.

What about the Isdera remains in Saarwellingen? (Also a office in Saarbrücken??) First i thought you're talking 'bout that little Saarwellingen city.... -As also the car in most of the newer web pics carying Saarlouis plates, (Saarwellingen belongs to the bigger Saarlouis area) before went to auction and is now "somewhere" ... Or do you already talk about the car after beeing sold at the Sotheby's auction...? -so is it now located in Hildesheim?

Good on the guy who built the second car the way HE wanted. He bought the chassis and pushed for it to be rebuilt. Eberhard threw a tantrum, something you'd expect from a toddler, because the owner/builder wanted to modernize or upgrade parts of the project, no wonder Isdera has had a rocky past and never really went anywhere with toddlers at the helm.

I'm pretty sure under EU law its fine, doesn't matter what the owner of Isdera says now. Lots of cult cars, good or bad have been assembled from new old part stock or imported knock down kits of cars sold to overseas manufacturers years before, even when the original company died or got broken up and are able to registered if they start with a minimum amount of original parts. This is all vehicle registration wise, when it comes to branding and trademarks its a whole different kettle of fish.

Even if it's not allowed to wear the badges, I think the white car is and should be recognised as a second Commendatore. Similarly to the Dax Cobra replica's: They may not be AC's or Shelby's , but they're still Cobra's. Maybe the owner can create an immitation brand name like "Indera" to badge the car as (Independent Design & Racing) and then have the eagle on the badge facing the opposite direction. That way if the two cars ever meet, the eagles can be staring at each other! Also, R.M. Sotherby's is pronounced R.M Sutherbees.

Imperator is the German word for emperor. Sooo, his conpany went bankrupt, one of his biggest fans bought the subframe to finish the car that he couldn't finish, made it better than the original and instead of being happy that at least someone cares about his cars, he tries to alienate the guy. Even Ferrari doesn't get that bad, they just don't want people doing weird crap with their badge. You know what Isdera is doing today? They are making a small sports ev with a Chinese company called Weltmeister. He's btw, calling it the Commendatore GT. It's a 2+2 sports ev. So he's apparently fine with completely changing everything in the car but just decided to be a dick to that one guy who was probably a fan.

After reading most of the comments here, the majority of the ppl obviously dont get what the problem with the 2nd car is. Mister Schulz still had a 2nd already built chassis, and some already built body pannels. He agreed to sell these parts to an enthusiast, but under a very strict rule. Building a non-streetlegal copy for display only. Because the high value of the original and absolut unique "one of" should not be affected. That was the original "gentlemen's agreement" right from the beginning. Mister Schulz has even helped to build this clone; at least at the beginning of that project. But, when the buyer decided to bring this clone on the streets, Mister Schulz was of course not really excited. But, Schulz had already known, that a second built Commendatore 112i cannot be registered, because the of changed registration laws in Germany. So, no reason to worry. Well, the builder of the clone has chosen to go the illegal and therefore criminal way. Facing the fact, that it is impossible to register the clone as a "Commendatore 112i", he used the survived chassis number of an old - and already registered - Isders Imperator 108i. Of course a complete different car. The employed people in the registration office didn't know the difference, and registered the clone. And because an Imperator 108i is already so old that it can be registered as a so called "historic vehicle", the clone's number plate got a "H" on it; while the original Comendatore 112i wasn't old enough to get a historic registration. The clone itself is - possibly - not illegal (if for display only), but register it by using an "old" chassis number and from a complete "different model" (an Imperator 108i) what has never been a Commendatore 112i, is without a doubt very illegal. That is the reason why this clone should be confiscated and distroyed and the owner should spend time behind bars. IMHO

so let me get this straight, Eberhard wanted to sell the customer a car that he had built in his garage (he legally bought the 2nd chassis) and when he didn't comply with these ridiculous terms he threw a tantrum... he even provided him with the correct parts and blueprints ffs

Loved nfs2. I know many didn't but whatever! Great game at the time. Maybe because there wasn't a point a to point b. If everything was kept the same but with updated graphics would be awesome.

It wouldn't which was sort of proven with Hot Pursuit reboot from 2010. Also, what do You mean it wasn't from point a to point b? Racing from start to finish of a course is literally this. Just because there wasn't an open map with a race tracks scattered on it doesn't mean it wasn't. The difference was the variety of locations around the world, each with unique circuit design.

One of the most beautiful cars ever made 🤩 There is a photo that was taken in California where the Commendatore was parked next to a new Bugatti and one of those newer Mc Larens. Ugly cars in comparison! Personally, I never understood entirely why Mr Schulz was so angry about the second car.

a valid take! I don't disagree with this, but you can't just go about legalizing your sketchy garage built whatever and call it a company's factory car. I can't just whip up an isdera in my garage without 'jointly communicating' it with them officially. What he's doing is essentially illegal as he's posing the car to authorities as something it's not. we also don't know how much it cost and how much was freely given (such as the molds? were they returned after they were used?) or if there were any friendly discounts etc. I think Mr.Schulz is mad because he was denied by the owner to make the car an official factory isdera, and less about the tampering of the company's heritage

@@Ricys It´s a well established fact that the second chassis frame was built by Isdera in the 90s and sold by Mr Schulz to the private owner. In his public open letter Mr. Schulz even acknowledges the fact that in the beginning he supported the project by a faithful Isdera customer. I wonder when we see the final court decision to this long and seemingly never ending story.

@@Ricys That would be for a judge to decide. As a matter of fact the second Commendatore wqs initiated by Mr Schulz/Isdera in the 1990s. The second project was then abandoned and the second Commendatore chassis frame sold to a customer who comp leted the car.

The second one is the owners car. He can do whatever he wants with it and build it in any way he wants. Eberhard Schulz can have no say in it. Its not his car. He was a terrible business man that ran a crap company that barely produced anything. Just another blowhard, whiny designer who knows nothing of business or private property rights.
