To answer the question at around 9:04, I believe the answer is yes, the driver can control the transparency of the partition. There's a button on the right side of the cab that switches between transparent and opaque, as seen in Train Sim World (assuming this is accurate, of course).

@Mr. VeryBadCop On my first trip on an ICE3 in Frankfurt I asked the driver if he could make the screen clear but he informed me it was "kaput". Half way thru the journey there was a driver change and the new driver made the screen clear so Kaput was a lie! Anyways I do recall reading that it is entirely up to the driver whether he makes it frosted or clear.

About your dislike of München Hbf. They are working on it. At the moment work is underway for a new main building and a new tunnel station vor S-Bahn trains. Also they will finally build a pedestrian tunnel between the platforms. With 32 platforms(not counting the 4 U-Bahn platforms) and two wing stations you have to walk quite a distance to change trains. Especially when arriving in one of the wing stations you will have to walk the whole length of the platform to get to the concourse and then walk back out on another platform. With the tunnel this will be massively improved.

They unfortunately won't tear down the main hall though. It's a protected monument. They'll only rebuild the station building. How anyone could've decided that such an ugly metal box has to be "protected" is beyond me...

@@rubenvo3627 I'm not saying they should've build a baroque palace, of course they had to build something functional. What I don't get is when people nowadays try to protect this type of architecture. It was never built to last for eternity, those 60's and 70's style buildings were meant to be torn down and replaced by something better when the money was available. Putting something as bland as the main hall of Munich Central on a list of protected buildings is ridiculous when, at the same time, parts of Stuttgart Central - also a protected building - get torn down. Why is it allowed to demolish parts of a protected historical building, but when it comes to the grey box in Munich, those regulations suddenly have to be very strictly enforced...
@rubenvo3627
@rubenvo3627 3 жыл бұрын
@@leDespicable Well parts of the Bonatzbau simply had to be sacrificed to realise S21 but most importantly the main building will be refurbished - and I mean it really needed it. And the reason Munich too will be preserved is due to its significance from a engineering stand point. Why would you spend that money on looks when it could be used to improve other rail infastructure?

 @Shubham Pawaskar , it's not the traction motors, it's the old power converters with gate turn-off (GTO) thyristors, which are not effectively continuously adjustable like the more modern IGBT converters. Their step-by-step control logic makes it possible to clearly acoustically distinct between the different control frequencies, so that they sound like a scale.

I was traveling from Munich to Amsterdam on ICE in late summer 2020. The first leg of the journey was such a train with upgraded seats. Nightmare for a long ride. They now have the same hard seats for the 1st class, with reduced distance in between. I was sooo happy when for the Dutch leg of journey came a good old ICE with previous-gen seats. Nice that NS still uses the old generation of ICE trains, hope they won't upgrade.
@AlbertPool1995

While NS owns a few trainsets to share the costs of the shared service Amsterdam-Frankfurt/Basel, they're all maintained by DB, so it's likely the BR406 / ICE3M will get the new seats as well. (Btw, if you are travelling between the Netherlands and Munich more frequenty, try to catch the once daily Amsterdam-Basel services which offer a connection in Mannheim if you want to spend more time on the ICE3M. If you sit at the front of the train when leaving the Netherlands in the morning, you'll also have almost an entire carriage for yourself.)

I wonder if the hard, thin seats came about as a response to the complaint about lack of luggage space. Since the carriages haven't become bigger, the number of seats possible has to shrink or the seats become thinner for that improvement for the luggage. A trade-off that also put that revised train on shorter routes, I suspect.

As it seems that you're in Munich sometimes: you should REALLY try the ALEX from Munich to Praha, pulled by an electric loco from Munich to Regensburg where the train terminates and then is pulled by a diesel loco. Also it combines classic standard cars (with some really really comfortable old-style seats, feels like they have springs in the seat pad) with a modern double-deck car in between, so it's a rather interesting and unique train set you'd come across. Also it's one of the few long distance / international rail services where you can buy your ticket on board of the train, and don't have to buy it in advance

@@flopunkt3665 NEWS 15 Jan 2020, 14:02 Benjamin Wehrmann Transport ministry and Deutsche Bahn ink 86 billion euro investment contract Transport Clean Energy Wire The German rail service Deutsche Bahn (DB) and the country's transport ministry (BMVI) have sealed a contract that will see investments in the state-owned company at a record 86 billion euros by 2030. "The 2020s will be a golden age for Deutsche Bahn," said transport minister Andreas Scheuer, calling the investments "the biggest modernisation programme that ever existed in Germany." The funds will be primarily used for updating grid infrastructure and train stations as well as gearing DB's power supply further towards renewables, the company said. Scheuer said a "strong railway" would lay the groundwork for "active climate protection in the transport sector." The government contributes 62 billion euros to the investment programme and DB another 24 billion, meaning that the company's annual budget available for replacements and maintenance increases by more than 50 percent compared to the last round of financing, said the ministry. DB said it plans to modernise about 2,000 kilometres of tracks every year and 2,000 railway bridges over the next decade. The investments into DB were agreed upon in the framework of Germany's climate package in a bid to improve the country's lacklustre emissions reduction performance in the transport sector, which contrary to other sectors of the economy has not reduced its greenhouse gas output at all since 1990. In order to make train rides more attractive to customers, the government has also reduced taxes on train tickets and announced it would substantially increase funding of public transport services over the next decade. Deutsche Bahn said it would buy hundreds of new trains and also revive mothballed connections in a bid to lure and handle more passengers.

They should have deployed it on the berlin Munich route instead which have high speed lines to amplify its advantage of higher speed.

@@SimplyRailway No it's not. While they may look similar, there are some great differences. For example, the T series only has 5 or 7 coaches compared to the 8 of the ICE 3 family. It's also considerably slower at 230 km/h max compared to the 3 series 330 km/h. The T series also has a built in tilting system, granted it's no longer in use. Also the infamous Diesel ICE series TD was based on and part of the T series, while it had nothing to do with the 3 family. I get why people mix up the two, they both were built around the same time originally and they look somewhat similar. But that's where the similarities end. The T series was especially built to be used on non modified conventional routes and that's exactly where they keep operating to this day. The 3 family was designed to be the flagship on the new high speed lines and they all share the same basics, 8 coaches (4 of them are propelled) with 5 2nd Class, 2 first class and one Bistro/Restaurant car and speeds up to 330 km/h. BR 403, 406, 407 and the new 408s (the 30 units ordered last summer) are part of it. The T series ( BR 411, 415 and 605 (the Diesel ICE) ) are they own odd little family.

Here, though, I have to say that it's a cultural thing with seat firmness. Germans simply like harder seats better, and on long journeys it's certainly better for the back. By the way, you can also see this in cars, French cars are much better padded and super comfortable for short distances but not for long ones.

The new seats are absolutely horrendous. They are rock-hard, the lower back support is in totally the wrong position for anyone of above average height (for reference: I’m 187cm) and the curvature of the seat and narrow head rest make it impossible to sit in any posture other than perfectly upright and facing straight forward (a problem made even worse if you have the audacity to wear headphones). To make matters worse still: the head rest digs in to your shoulders if you’re tall, causing you to hunch forward. The overall result being back and neck pain as well as a high degree of general discomfort on journeys of any length (I’ve travelled on it for journeys of 1 to 4h). PS. Depressingly, they have also gotten rid of the six-seat compartments in second class, which were my preferred way of travelling, as they offered an unparalleled level of quietness (or, if you and your fellow travellers were so inclined a good conversation) and if you were lucky and they were empty, turned into a private cabin perfect for relaxing (If so inclined, you could stretch out over the three seats) or getting work done on the big table.

The ICE 1 is the best! It has the most comfort and is fast as well and faster than the ICE 4. Today’s German trains are designed with a low cost perspective and less passenger space to fit more people inside a train. The ICE 4 is just like a regional train. The difference is only the speed.

nice review ! but: min11sec58 - "privacy for (business) travellers" ... some proper curtains towards the corridor used to be standard on European trains for decades ... not just a blocked milk-glass for the driver ... a point - I fully understand, although of course a bit sad for interested travellers ... and: min12sec47 - SBB-rolling-stock far a IRE Stuttgart-Karlsruhe ? ... keep on travelling - best regards

Unless you make the entire track wider this isn't going to happen. Especially since you want a small front as air resistance is a thing.

I think, how a station looks like is rather uninteresting. It may matter if you do a report about munich station. But in this case it would be more interesting to tell facts about the stock, the cleanliness of the train, the appearence of the staff and the pricing in the bistro. All in all it was a good trip report. 👍
