Have you seen the new documentary on Icons? It’s called “The Hidden History of early Christian art”. It’s on the Harmony KZbin channel.

The pinnacle in art history was actually reached in the orthodox iconography of middle ages. Ever so fresh, alive and modern. When catholics fell into herecy same happened to their art with the raising of how ironic- the renaissance. Art lost it's spiritual essence turned towards this world and started degenerating ever since.

Im confused. Is this from the 7 part film or inspired by that film?
@OrthodoxLonerКүн бұрын
I compiled the 7 parts into one and made new visuals for clarity. The whole documentary can be found in the description of the video!

This is absolutely edifying. Full of well-rounded theology, and exaltation. God Bless you, Sir. On my journey toward baptism, my family members see the path I am walking, and wish to understand it better. As I grow in understanding, your foundational content will be a valuable place to direct them. Especially regarding the strong iconoclastic attitude which many who 'proclaim' Christ display. I am praying for you. By the prayers of the Theotokos and by the prayers of my lowly lips, may you be healed. This track here is marvelous (23:59). Would you mind sharing the title? Struggle well, Sir.

I dont have a problem with religious icons per say. My problem is with bowing down to them. We dont bow down to man made images.

We bow to Christ. It is an image of Christ, God, Holiness, which is real. We don't worship the painting or image. That is a modern, consumerist, Western way of looking at it. The pragmatic west boils things down to, well, pragmatism, and completely misses the heart.
@xrendezv0usx4 күн бұрын
@@DissonanceRiver no the image is NOT Christ. That's just blasphemy. Bowing down to images is a pagan practice from pagan Rome that crept into the church. It is anathema to our religion and to our Apostles, who were God fearing Jewish men who NEVER bowed down to any man made image. Follow the traditions of Peter the rock, who never bowed down to any man made image.

Kiss a picture of your baby? Turn out the lights to watch a movie so the screen gets your full attention? Salute the flag? Do the wave at a football game? Those are demonstrations of love and respect.

Icon is code for idol worshipping

If you paid attention to the source material, if you set your heart to hear theirs out, you would actually see this is not the case as it is explicitly stated over and over.

All of the pre-5th century "examples of iconography" you quote carry no indication that they were "venerated" at all. Neither do the Israelite tabernacle and associated objects. This is because the concept of the veneration of icons is a post-Patristic accretion. Men of faith like St. Epiphanius of Salamis (in Jerome, Letter 51) tore down an icon of Christ that was given veneration and historians like Eusebius describe the Christian church as distinctly devoid of images (in Eusebius' letter to Constantia).
@OrthodoxLoner4 күн бұрын
@johnathanl8396 St. Epiphanius was wrong on a few things. I'm not following one church father. For more proof and information, check out harmony's video called "Hidden History of Early Christian Art."

Bookmarking this so I can respond when I'm home. Josephus actually testifies to the existence of Christian images, and the archaeological record has indisputably confirmed this. As for veneration, you really should watch Seraphim Hamilton's most recent video demolishing the aniconic position of Ortlund. I'll respond in depth later and show you the logical impossibility of separating adornment with images/didactic images and veneration.

I find nothing of the sort in scripture, especially within the Gospels and the Apostolic epistles. Something went wrong during the third century. Yet, the Lord has always had a remnant people!
