The 6 speed is really warranted in my hilly city. I tend to use it mostly as a regular bike and switch on the assistance for steep hills or when I can't afford to sweat. Also knowing that I have the option always ease my mind when I feel too lazy. The handling of the bike is very special and one needs to get use to it. But it's very nice to zigzag around cars on the street or around people on mixed path.

You could leave the handlebar unfolded and it works as a great handle to wheel the bike around instead of by the bag handle

Just got the two speed, and it's plenty fast enough on the flat and minor rises in high gear. A mile long climb near me is dooable and will put necessary hairs on your chest on the lower gear. As long as you don't need to do a mountain descent it's fine, and light.

They should add a plugin to the battery for an LCD display on handlebars to show speed, battery life, pedal assist mode, plus buttons to control the pedal assist mode.

I've just received a Flit16 electric folder and looking forward to seeing how it compares! It doesn't fold quite as small as the Brompton, but it's so tidy without extra wires because the battery is integrated into the top tube

You missed the hidden side pocket on the City bag where you have a yellow rain cover for the bag. The Brompton electric following the EU regulation for electric assisted bike. Maximum 250 W motor and only assist up to 25 km/h (15.5 mph). But my opinion is it working very well. You get the help in strong winds against you and up for steep hills. At the same time you still get some exercise.

Excellent review but I would like to add: The bag is not suitable as a handle for wheeling!!!!! You can use the (unfolded) handlebars, as you show, or leave the seat post up and use the saddle. If doing the latter, it will be necessary to use a frame strap to keep the bike folded as the lowered seat post normally serves to lock the folded position. The hub gear is a super wide ratio 3 speed specially made for Brompton. The derailleur gear halves the step between the hub gears as well as providing an extra top and bottom gear. The derailleur mechanism is a modified chain tensioner that is there anyway on all Bromptons as part of the folding design.

Very nice review view ! At less than half that cost the Magnum Classic is very well made 20'' folding bike .

Thanks! I agree that there are other tons of other really interesting folding ebikes and thanks for pointing out the Magnum. However, many folding ebikes are much heavier than the Brompton. There are trade-offs for sure (battery, motor etc.) but I think the Brompton fits a specific niche being so lightweight.

If you live in a city and like the idea of a compact multi-modal bike, the E Brompton is a good choice.

@@EbikeEscape what do you think about how Brompton wraps all cables with tie wraps? Only a matter of time before a cut in a cable will occur and e.g the spanninga rear light cable is quite fragile. Repairs for lights are advised to be serviced by an authorised Brompton Electric dealer (p.48 owners manual) who will charge additional labour fees making it a very costly rear light replacement. I believe for the premium price you pay for this product, Brompton needs to reconsider their tying practice. Anyway, managing cables with some velcro or a less intrusive way are also part of creating an awesome custom electric bike.

How steep was that hill? Your legs seemed to be going pretty fast! I have a BE and I often find that going up a gear gets more assistance from the motor - it requires more effort from you so the torque sensor gets the motor to do more. You can then relax a bit! .

I don't know the exact grade, but it is a steep hill. This was my first take if you will so I was trying the gears out. At one point my legs were moving too fast for my comfort. I tend to ride at a slower cadence and push harder. Great to hear from a real Brompton Electric owner :)

Glad you liked my Brompton review. It does not have regenerative braking which to be honest doesn't add significantly to the range in my experience.
