That THEY refuse him a permit only draws more attention to a conspiracy to conceal. Frankly, does anyone believe that they are smart but now I want to know the real reason my interest is sooo peaking now! Hiking (minimally) as pairs makes so much sense and good idea sharing the beacon. If people follow those guidelines no guarantee but answers will eventually bubble up to the surface. The marathon doctor/runner story creeps me out. I am 58 years old now & stay urban but at age 15 I hiked a lot. on trips as far as advanced camping so on a 100 mile mountain hike at Philmont near Cimmaron, NM in a valley by the river at dusk after fly fishing class my group of 20 settled in. (I am empathic)& had a feeling I (or we) were being stalked/hunted by something. An anxiety attack which I have never had before or since; I was uncontrollably shaking, inconsolable frozen in fear, and felt we were all in danger. The adult leaders gathered round finally after an hour settled me down, but my eyes transfixed on SOMETHING across the river in the deep woods. I never left the side of at least 3 people all night no incidents after for remaining 50 miles and I have never wrote about this before. I never gave it thought till seeing the connect dots you do but don’t think anyone else did. Both Fascinating & disturbing

He's been denied for no good reason (and before ever even thinking about applying), and I'm curious to see if they would do the same to a private citizen. Probably not, but still I would be curious if it's because he's creating media that would be distributed to a large audience vs some private nature lover filming some birds or making a small documentary or something. The thing is, if that really bothered them, they should be letting him film because their denials just make it more suspicious and build this up until a conspiracy theory of sorts is born.

Also, I saw someone else post this on a different video last night: when hiking into the woods, periodically stop and turn around to make sure nobody is tracking you and also to see the landscape and landmarks from the opposite direction so you know what it should look like on the way back. I had never thought of that before but it is brilliant. Another idea is to mark your path with something that can't be easily removed or erased. Like carving into a tree.

As a 5th generation Idahoan and a hunter, we were always told “ never go to the selway alone”, maybe this was part of the reason why! And I think this has been going on for a lot longer than we know, my great grandfather was born in 1898 and he was the one who told us the warnings.

That is very, very interesting. What is the local lore? Is there anyone to contact about this? The "old timer's" were in possession of extremely valuable information, it always brings to mind the late 80's Cinderella hit, "Dont know what you got, till its gone". There are a diminishing number of old woodsman left in the newly semi- rural small town I inhabit. I feel frustrated and ashamed that I have not sought out their insight and knowledge. One old fella was dismissed by my father's younger generation as "FULL OF IT", Yet the more I look into his old "Tall tales" the more they are validated and he is vindicated.

The disappearance of Terrance Woods is disturbing and when you find out 3 other people went missing in the same area the same day it becomes more difficult and uncomfortable to think about. These people have families that must face the fact that their loved one is gone with no explanation and it makes me ache inside. My wife and I grew up in Idaho County. Kooskia, to be exact. I remember multiple missing persons searches every hunting season. We still camp on the Selway River. The disappearance I find strange is the PA. The others I could skip over and not think anything strange as a 50 foot hike to use the head can be deadly in that area. I've been all over the woods where they were filming. Definitely some spooky vibes up there when alone. It is weird to see my home area come up on one of your videos, Dave. Keep up the good work. David, I grew up on the Eastern side of that mountain area in Montana. It is the largest wilderness area in the contiguous States. There are people that live permanently In Those mountains because they are criminals. You will remember the female Olympic skier that was abducted in Montana some time ago. My sister in law’s brother was a deputy sheriff that worked on that case. There are usually two things that make a person take off running like that. Fear is associated with both. Fear for you safety is one, fear for someone else’s life is another. Instead of running away from something maybe that young man saw something that prompted him to a flight of rescue. There are other disappearances on the Montana side that have never been solved.

Great segment Dave ! I flew air search and rescue for civil air patrol in the sierras in California . Plenty of pilots never file a flight plan or carry essential survival gear for a short flight over extremely rugged terrain and it’s often days before someone reports them missing. Happily sometimes an eyeball search of the home airfield locates the plane on the ground because the pilot changed their mind and didn’t actually fly. One time I was flying over some tall peaks with no tree or brush cover looking for a fresh missing plane when we saw a wreck out in plain site. The funny thing is it went missing 50 years earlier and was never found,..until now! How could that be since searches routinely fly over this exposed location every time someone is missing? It’s like it just vanished and reappeared no mortal remains of its crew either it took a ground search team a few days to reach it and determine it was lost 50 years ago.

I am from the UK and we don't have guns and people here would be appalled at guns in the UK as with Europe. People who are outraged by guns don't understand the necessity of owning and knowing how to use them when out in the wilderness in many parts of the world. Here in the UK we don't have any dangerous wildlife however there are plans to reintroduce wolves back in Scotland now it has been very heavily reforested. If I live in the US and wanted to go out into the wilderness I wouldn't dare go without a good gun, bear spray and a satellite locator.

Just a heads up. Recently the Nova Scotia Army ran a psyop on their citizens, pretending to release packs of wild wolves in the area. They were caught forging documents, plagiarizing their logo and even used speakers to mimic the sound of wolves. It's sounds insane, but the Army just shrugged it off as a "mistake". Never did explain the speakers part though. I recall a number of years back where they had also said they were releasing wild wolves in Idaho...now I wonder if that also wasn't a psyop to instill fear or identify certain personalities within community. I would often counsel my teachers: Don't let the kids who are squirming or chattering or being a distraction draw your attention and drain your energy from your intention. First, I'd like to say thank you for covering this one. I ran across these cases in the news about a week after they happened. I was, coincidentally, looking for information about a friend of mine that had gone missing in a neighboring county. I live in Idaho, by the way. 1st rule of going into the woods here is that you go armed. I do not recommend entering a wooded setting without carrying. If you want to stay safe, that is. I completely respect a person that will carry on camera. To me, it says that you live by what you tell other people BECAUSE you want to stay safe. To whomever is complaining- You have the option of not watching Dave on camera, open carrying. If you find that offensive, you are in the minority and perhaps you should consider whether or not you should watch something that triggers you, if the majority of viewers support Dave's right to assure his own safety. To Dave- If you leave KZbin, while I respect your right and ability to determine whether a move like that is right for your channel, it appears that you'll be leaving many of us behind. There is no way that people like me could afford to pay for video content. I've been homeless for quite some time. KZbin videos, especially on topics like this, well researched and presented, are what I look for. I always look for Canam videos, specifically. Of course, there are other videos that I could watch instead on the missing 411 phenomenon, but I'd rather see videos that come from authority on the subject vs some pretty wild guesses and theories. As far as hate goes in general, I would appeal to you to not allow a small portion of the viewer base that comes here just to spread negativity, to ruin it for the rest of us. Totally respect your choice if you go, but along with many here, I'll not be able to follow for an extended length of time. Thanks for all that you do, Dave!

Thank you all for showing genuine kindness in regards to my current situation. Its has been tough. The way I choose to look at is that every tunnel, no matter how long and winding it is, comes to an eventual end. Just trying to spend time bettering my situation and in my free time, I really enjoy the videos that Dave puts up for us. They're full of good information and research. Like you all, I'd be very sad to see him move to another platform over the complaints of a few people. I mean no disrespect to anyone but to be fair, Dave does bring these videos to us for free and monetization helps facilitate that. The folks that watch his videos should absolutely expect him to open carry while out in the woods, he doesn't strike me as a hypocrite that would suggest that others do something that he won't do himself, not to mention that he is spot on with his reasons for doing so. That said, I truly hope that Dave will consider that much of his viewership doesn't have even $5-10 a month to part with, especially during these uncertain times. It's not that we wouldn't pay if we could, we just can't. And in my opinion, it is very likely that many of the people that would take the time to contact Dave to complain about this or that don't appear to have the same level of respect and gratitude for his work that the rest of us do. Dave has to be able to keep this thing going so being able to finance this is vital. He could put up a patreon but it would probably have the same effect as moving platforms since many would not be able to donate. As far as open carrying goes, it is his right to be able to defend himself in the event of an animal or even a human attack. I personally would not venture into the woods without being armed since I have come across moose (which can be every bit as dangerous as a bear), bear, cougars and even people pointing arms at me. And then there is the unknown factor. Speaking from 20+ years of personal experience with the outdoors, I have been witness to some pretty bizarre occurrences over that time period and am fairly well convinced that I have nearly gone missing myself. It is my opinion that there are absolutely elements that we know little to nothing about at play here. Because of that, Dave's work, his advice and the information that he shares with us is an extremely valuable asset in keeping people as safe as is possible while out in the woods. It would be a shame if that access were to be restricted to the general public due to the actions of those that feel the need to criticize and complain. In the end, I will indeed respect Dave's decision. But I do sincerely hope that he considers all of those of us that can't afford to follow him will really be left with are those that spread inaccurate information while hanging any number of theories on the subject, when it comes to video material to choose from. It would be a sad day, to say the least. Once again, thank you all for being so kind. I do very much appreciate it. Kind words go a long way toward encouraging people in a situation like mine to keep moving forward and renewing determination to overcome. Thank you all for that!!
