The most interesting part for me was this story was written by a black woman. And the original story had a black woman as the main protagonist (I think BOTH characters were black actually but I’m not sure) but publishers, apparently, convinced her the book wouldn't sell with a black woman as the lead so she had to whitewash her own story! We could have had Regina Hall in this role!

I believe the author that wrote the two main characters as black but they were changed to be white because the movie production company didn't think the original idea of two black people falling in love was "believable" and "marketable". Eh, I don't love that as an ending tbh. Specifically the her never getting over him part. I don't always need a happy ending in love stories, but a story where an older woman with already a failed marriage (where she was cheated on and left for a younger woman) dates a guy who everyone says is out of her league, and then just ends up alone and pining again, just doesn't sound very fun to me. Sometimes wish fulfillment is better.

I have read the book and Solene was the one who left him because she stopped replying to him. I prefer the movie's ending tho. They were still so in love with each other hence the 5 years waiting. It happened. Who are we to say that it was impossible, eh? They were honest with their feeling, honest with each other and didn't give false hopes. Sometimes, true love happens. Yeah the movie is much better about handling the age gap than the book. They aged him up enough to where it's not creepy (in book he is 20), did away with Solene's fixation on his youth, and did away with that creepy story of him at 13/14 sleeping with someone who was 19 and having that experience presented as him "knowing his taste in women" from a young age. And then Solene's jealousy of that woman. The movie is all the better for not having all those things. And aging up the daughter (she is 12ish in book) so that they dont do that whole leaving a child and her friends with a strange man (Hayes' bandmate).

Couple relationships don't have to be based on buying a house, having children and being happy. Couple relationships are a unique dynamic for each couple. I was in a relationship with someone 20 years younger when I was 43 and he was 23. We had met accidentally when I had just got divorced and was a Mum of two. He was actually the most mature life partner I ever had. It all started as lust and it developed into love. A lot of love. Too much love, perhaps. Social pressure was unbelievably unbearable and after three years I left and ended the relationship. Big mistake I made. Really big. Okay I need people to stop thinking this is about Harry Styles. The author is a Black woman, almost 50 and has stated multiple times it's not about him. The main character was supposed to be Black. The publishers kept rejecting the story because they didn't think a Black lead w would sell in a romance/contemporary book. She CHANGED the character(s) to white. She's was either supposed to fall in love with a Black or white boy band member. Technically imo this idea means she probably was thinking more 90s or 2000s boyband and not one direction. Gotta remember a lot more boy bands existed in both the US and UK during this time. Also the author is an established Black writer for tv/film and has done acting, that's how she knows Gabrielle Union, who was also an executive producer on this.

lmao i'm 26 and my wife is 41, it's an unusual age gap for sure but like it's the most healthy communicative relationship either of us have ever been in. we just hit our one year anniversary which is pretty cool :)

@@momo7989and thats a misconception the original characters were white, but she intended them to be an interacial couple with the female lead being black when she got the idea, which would still make the harry styles thing entirely plausible

i don't actually recommend to read the book bcoz it's a lot of ick since in the book he's 21. which is a no. But in the book there were a lot more depth on their relationship i guess. they talked about more stuff. in the movie it's like where is the attraction is it just she's hot like what else. also one important point is that Oli is Hayes bestfriend in the book, and it's insinuated that Oli is inlove with Hayes. Which since we've established that this is a harry styles fanfic we all know what this refers too.. so uhm Anyways someone on twitter said this movie is if like you're ARMY and your mom started dating Jungkook LMAAOOOOO

It was a cute movie. I did like the chemistry between Anne and Nicholas and I think their scenes together were my favorite parts of the movie. I honestly love anything Anne Hathaway is in. I feel like she can make any movie good or bad a fun watch. I also think Nicholas really rocked the stubble during the ending. That stubble with the kinda messy hair I've always kinda been a fan of on guys.

So I am deffo more like kennie. My mum (after leaving my abusive father) ended up sleeping with/dating a golfer who was younger and quite attractive. I was like hell yeah ma. Like he was only 10 years younger than her, not the larger age gap of the movie but I was hella happy for her.

i read the beginning of the book and he is 20 and shes in her mid thirties. Spoiler of the book she leaves him telling him that she never loved him only the idea of him and he kept texting her that he loved her until he realized that she wasn’t going to text back and it stopped. TBH the age gap grosses me out in both the book and the movie. And that goes both ways for men and women

Girl any movie with Coachella in it is cheesy at best. I watched this movie and it's in my opinion pretty stupid but in a fun kind of way. I dont agree that it had emotional depth. Her divorce story is as vulnerable as she gets and him saying he is afraid he will become obsolete and people use him for fame is the most we get from him. Those are fan fic plot points if Ive ever heard one. Their bond is just slightly above surface level. The movie Its Complicated with Meryl Streep has a very different, way more relatable, storyline that discusses similar subjects of the beauties that come with being an older woman. This movie looks at beauty in all angles like body image, the beauty of wisdom that comes with age, the beauty of calmness that comes with having older kids leaving home soon. The Emma Thompson movie Good Luck Leo Grande focuses more specifically on the beauty of an oldier woman's body and older women learning to be more confident in themselves. I know this channel doesnt focus on good films lol. I just wanted to put out there that this film was just so unrealistic and didnt have the depth it needed to be good. It was just kinda dumb. However for the standards of what dumb means on this channel though, this movie is an all around five stars 🌟 from me. It is award winning material compared to Room.

You should watch Mary & George to see Nick as the Duke. He’s kind of a grey character and he can get very evil. I love that show and it’s dark humour and I think you would probably like it, it’s super dramatic and the ending is CRAZY.
