As well as fighting oxidative stress i'ts also important not to eat foods that drive it. Carbohydrates especially refined ones increase blood sugar which increases oxidative stress therefore a low barb diet is essential, you can get enough calories from healthy fats.

Taking Levadopa 45 minutes before or after a protein rich meal doesn't work for me. The food cancels Levadopa as I understand that dietary protein gets priority to use the transport mechanism. I have tried all sorts of ideas and nothing works so I have my main (protein) meal of the day after my last Levadopa of the day. I am not really functioning after that.

Methylene blue (mitochondria) and tyrosine (dopamine synthesis) have helped my mom a lot. We had to back off on fructose oatmeal seeds (seeds become hard to swallow with Parkinson's) however minerals such as magnesiums potassium, high quality ginko biloba choline citrate inositol

I have posted twice already on this site, but happened upon it again, not recognizing it from before. Whole new perspective now. You must be a dietician or nutritionist! One part of the video you are saying no high protein foods because they compete with PD nutrients! Next part you are saying organic animal foods are ok. But, you encourage carbs, which drive your hunger signal every two hours, plus cause the protein tangles,( lewey bodies), of PD! Recent advice is going Keto/carnivore, opposite of your training. Carbs, fruit ,and grains are inflammatory in blood stream thru glycation of tissues and red blood cells!

You lost me at carbs. Carbs drive blood glucose which drives insulin spikes which stores fat and restricts release of body fat for weight loss. It is also inflammatory, which drives all the inflammation like arthritis! Carbs also FEED cancer cells. Your body only needs one teaspoon of glucose at any one time to function, all the excess is stored and saved as body fat, you can't burn fat as long as insulin is elevated! The keto diet is not fad or hard to do! It turns your body to using fat , in form of KETONES, to fuel body, Grains, fruit juices, smoothies are all high in glucose., which fly ages the cells, and proteins , making them sticky and misfolded, DOES THAT SOUND FAMILIAR? Least bodies!

What about the people who are underweight? Keto is not generally safe for long term. Specially for people who are underweight.

A121 - keto diet constipates and is totally the wrong choice for PD - this presentation was excellent and life affirming for those living with Parkinson’s disease. Carbs aren’t toxic - how absurd to make everything black and white. Simplistic thinking.

@@pj41 How can you be constipated if you ARE NOT EATING FIBER? Also, ketone bodies don't glycate the brain, while excess glucose does.

I learned that fruits and vegetables has to be peeled because all the pesticides are on the skin Especially apples have a lot of preservatives on their skin

That's somewhat true. Unfortunately, many of the pesticides used today become a part of the fruit and vegetable and are not only restricted to the peel.

Seeing that most fish especially salmon are now full of pcbs and heavy metals I'd be avoiding fish and fish supplements and upping flax etc that will also reduce blood pressure by 15-20 points. As constipation is also a major issue for p.d. patients and animal products have zero fibre why add to the issue. Meat is not oxygen we do not need it to live. And a simple B12 supplement is cheap.

Hold up there, @yourcelebrant, flax seeds may lower BP, but, so will low carb eating, as water binds to excess glucose in bloodstream the same way salt does. The difference? You need salt as an electrolyte, you need absolutely NO CARBS, whatsoever. They are not essential. Not only that but, if you are constipated, do you need MORE bulk clogging up you tract, or less bulk to ease the constiction? Low carb does not contribute to constipation, loads of fiber does! Whatever is in your colon will digest into butyrate, which meat does very readily, oh, aand by the way, another name for Highgate is KETONES, as in ketogenic diet, you know, the diet that plant based warns you against. I have a friend at church who was diagnosed PD 15 years ago, doing way above par using Rock Steady Boxing at YMCA, dancing is also helpful, anything that keeps you moving. And low carb diets have proven helpful by lowering glucose excesses. Any more glucose than what your own liver produces IS EXCESS!

Too many carbs are unhealthy for any human, (and pets!) The best advice for anyone is: eat the the processed carbs you mention very sparingly, cut the added sugars and unhealthy oils. Eat meat with the fat it comes with and chicken with the skin on - this is your best fuel, not carbohydrate! If you eat most of your carbs as fruit and vegetables your body will thank you. Probably you will lose weight because the water attached to the extra sugar in your body will be flushed out. Make sure you keep hydrated. Best of luck.

Keto can help liver and kidney problems definitely, but, PD has so many other factors to it that it would be inappropriate for me to advise you. I'm not a doctor, just learning as much as I can and trying to help. Michael J Fox foundation is good place to start. God Bless
