The original Hulk idea was that Banner transformed at night and was a Jeckly/Hyde allegory. It was later changed to his heart rate going so high, and then his anger, and there are plenty of times in which he just transforms at will. It seems that each persona of the Hulk has its own triggers but Banner passes from one to the next without stopping without one for long. Also, as a former gas station employee, I've had people drive off without taking the pump out of the car, override the auto-shutoff and then complained that they overfilled their car and spilled gas everywhere, people regularly steal gas, the list goes on. It isn't hard, the problem is that all customers, myself included, are insanely stupid.

We have a Lovecraftian Hulk here (except Lovecraft would be rolling in his grave knowing the Hulk with his non-white, green skin is our hero) who's dealing with a metaphysical door created as a byproduct of Gamma Radiation which has ties to actually Satan... But the truly horrifying thing that's blowing everyone's mind is that we can't pump our own gas here in Jersey.

Being completely fair, Bruce Banner is the perfect lovecraft protagonist. White Male coming from a economically decent family, somewhere on the east coast, who is also a psychological mess due to a history of child abuse and being haunted by an other worldly horror birthed from his own body. Now he wanders, a fugitive from the law as he seeks the only thing that can help him, pumping his own gas in New Jersey, for only then will his soul be truly at rest. The rest basically writes itself.

A. Carter i wish hulk was like this in the mcu I feel like the MCU ruined the Hulk Hulk used to be my favourite character of all time i liked infinity war and endgame but i hated what they did to hulk he is a fucking joke in this movie i wanted to fucking rage i felt like i was gonna hulk out when I first saw it I was just thinking of Mr Jamison laughing when Peter asks him if he could be paid in advance i dont even concider it the hulk he talks to much i hate the whole idea of proffesor hulk I hate how it looks he looked more like shrek mixed with amadeus cho who i fucking hate buy the way and streve urkel with the stupid fucking glasses I was just thinking he was gonna say what are y'all doing in my swamp the CGI was fucking horrible terrible people think hulk 2003 is bad I like that movie people say they talk to much in that movie yeah about why he is the hulk and the meaning behind it and how bruce banners nightmares are hulks reality it gives him More emotional depth then ever before every time he hulks out it has a direct connection to the hidden memory he suppressed he has these hidden memories of his father killing his mother right in front of his eyes at a very young age and every time he hulks out he is clearly working through an emotional state in his mind the nanobots heal what ever hurts most when you have emotional pain the brain registers it the same way as physical pain so when he has emotional pain his entire body hurts and the nanobots go to fix the problem but they dont just heal it they make it stronger then what it was before so the more pain he has the stronger he gets It was due to all the emotional pain he goes through that made him the hulk the movies qbout the dangers of suppressed emotional truma and the effect it can have on the people around us i dont get way people hate the movie their the same people who hate batman and robin for being to goofy and haveing no plot at all and the same people who praised the dark knight for a very in-depth plot and character development and the same people who praised the first two x-men movies and logan endgame and infinity war so many missed opportunity no rematch with thanos no fight with cull obsidian How about Hulk vs Thanos round 2 How about Hulk vs Cull Obsidian How about something Anything The Hulk didn't even fight in the movie he has no healing factor I feel like they have been dumbing down the hulk To add to that Endgame also made The Avengers movie Hulk goofy When Tony, Cap, and Ant-Man went back in time at the end of The Avengers movie Endgame retcons Hulk into talking more and there is the big joke about not taking being able to take the elevator and having to take the stairs and ever since Disney bought marvel they have been stripping away any sort of emotional depth from him completely removing his abusive dad from his past in that deleted scene from Thor ragnorock instead it's ah we where perfect family but I missed my dad die because I was working too much where is his emotional depth the abusive father is what made the hulk the gamma just unleashed him for me I want to see Bruce Banners struggles like the stuff Edward Norton wanted in his movie you know the stuff that was cut for me the best hulk is eric bana proffesor hulk is the opposet of what stan lee wanted him to be a scary fearful monster i liked how they embraced it in the eric bana movie the whole scary fearful monster thing and even making references to other monster movies like king kong frankenstine even the t rex from jurrasic Park Godzilla and when they thoughtfully turns the Hulk’s characterization into a deeper metaphor for trauma the dramatic back story of bruce banner with his dad killing his mum and the phycological drama stuff make it even scarier so eric bana is my favourite hulk and i like how the eric bana film he is like an unstoppable force of destruction in the mcu besides the first avengers movie he seems very weak and in the super hero squad witch i hated to death and in all the disney xd shows witch i fucking hate to they make the hulk a mentally retarded thing For me the perfect version of the hulk would be a hybrid of the el Ewing immortal hulk with the horror themes jeph loeb marvel knight hulk grey avengers earth's mightiest Heroes hulk because we get to see a different side to the hulk that we normally don't see where he is more intelligent but not professor hulk still a monster the hulk vs animated movie wolverine and the X-Men hulk from the Christopher Yost Animated Universe Earth-8096 the first season of the 1996 fox kids the incredible hulk cartoon from the marvel action hour of Earth-534834 for its really really dark tone and mature content and character development its sad they changed it for season 2 ultimate avengers earth-3488 hulk Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction Earth-TRN008 peter david the incredible hulk last call the 1977 incredible hulk bill bixby and Lou Ferrigno live action tv show from Earth-400005 created by Kenneth Johnson with the hulk being like the 1931 Frankenstein and it being very realistic and feeling more like a drama being based off the victor hugo novel Les Misérables not the fucking musical the novel i think it works for the hulk the first hulk movie with Eric Bana Earth-400083 with the dark phycologycal themes the Bill Mantlo run for establishing a man with a full range of emotions just a lot less control of such emotions He's not dumb but rather his brain can be clouded at times He can tap into the intellectual half of himself into Banner but clearly doesn't like doing so preferring to rely largely on instinct on strength and savagery and for introducing the great crossroad storyline and Peter David run David reshaped the inarticulate slab of the Hulk into an action-packed psychological study Bruce Banner and his opposite were fully-realized characters locked in a fascinating tug-of-war that dragged the readers through studies of personality disorders and abuse The history of childhood abuse that Bill Mantlo had introduced for Banner, David made clear and integral. Bruce's father had abused him and his mother eventually killing her planting the hidden-away pocket of rage that would become the Hulk As David wound their way through throwbacks to horror comic origins emotional drama and nuclear allegory the guiding concept was revealed Banner had serious emotional problems and an intense personality disorder and like all of us he had to deal with it and the Greg Pak run mainly planet hulk and world war hulk and with a very dark horror disaster thriller body horror monster found footage movie feel with fuck loads of jump scares and Mark Millars ultimate hulk with the idea of him being a villainous menace with a homicidal like rage and is shown to be unhinged lewd sadistic violent ruthless and very very cannibalistic you know when He often eats the remains of his opponents and is more of a murderer and the savage hulk from 616 and the Mindless Hulk and the worldbreaker hulk no one should be able to fuck with the hulk even if they kick his ass he comes back for revenge and goes besurker with blood thirst savage gorrila like rage like a loose cannon and i would want it to be an NC-17 rated or in australia r18+ rated with lots of body horror just scary as all fuck like the hulk should be and the idea of what hulk 2 was gonna be before it was canceled it was gonna focus on Bruce Banner's epic struggle with his inner demons, resulting in the emergence of an evil, gray-hued Hulk and It was on gonna be set on a Native American reservation and it was all about radioactivity and it was really political i wanted to see that so badly hulk is a character I reckon should be dark like daredevil punisher and batman and very horror like i want the hulk to be scary as fuck again frightening as fuck not this stupid fucking steve urkul glasses wearing shrek looking motherfucker

Sal's rant at 5:58 about the gas pumping was great. I've always lived in areas where you have to pump your own gas and the few places that do offer to pump gas for you charge you extra for that. But yes, there are a lot of people out there that should not be pumping their own gas let alone be driving a motor vehicle in the first place.

If I'm not mistaken, he also transformed by night in his first appearance. Lee and Ditko didn't quite know what to do with him yet, so every other issue they'd change his transformation. I remember him building this bunker in a cave to lock the hulk up when it was night. During the day he'd have Rick Jones let him out. Also he jumped over the Pacific ocean. Then bragged that he could hop further if he wanted to. The first 12 Hulk stories were pretty wild.

Yeah, those and I believe a few other states are called "Full service states", where you have to have someone pump your gas for you. It's a shame you guys didn't get further into this book. Next issue he fights The avengers has that famous line where he says that's my secret I'm already dead. And then you have the fight with absorbing man where they cut the hulk into pieces and put them into jars. I like hulk from before with planet hulk and world war Hulk but immortal hulk really hooked me on the character. It's a shame that they cut this version of the hulk short.

So with Ultimate Spider-Man recently ending its first volume, I would love to see Immortal Hulk become the replacement to it as a recurring series, it would be so dope, especially seeing Sal trying to explain a lot of the even crazier things that happen later on in the run lol.

I like the idea of the immortal hulk not being a killer. It makes sense in a way that an immortal who has chosen to be judge, jury, but not executioner for the dammned. Why would he view death as a punishment, something that will forever be denied him, something he can only briefly experience before he is brought back to his mortal coil, assuming there is anything to experience at all. After a time, life itself would seem the much crueler curse, and thus a horrible one full of pain is a more befitting punishment to those he judges.

Oregon didn't change...well they did change, but it's only at night and in remote locations. I have to say having lived most of my life outside of Oregon, and moving here only a couple years ago, that is one of the most frustrating parts to adapt to...waiting on someone to pump my gas when I know how to do it myself.

Rarely is there an episode of Back Issues where I've already read the arc (patiently waiting for Mister Miracle) so this was a nice treat. Immortal Hulk might be my favorite Marvel book right now. It's up there with Miles Morales and Daredevil.

Yep. If you don't travel out of state much you find yourself asking some stranger how to do it. You have no idea what its like to be like 20 years old and ask some lady in a minivan full of kids how to pump gas. You tell yourself you wil never forget. 2 years later you forget to fill up before going to visit family out of state and womp womp. Asking another stramger how to do it again.

This book is the first time I've seen Sasquatch in his human form & gotta say seeing *another* Canadian in Marvel have those mutton chops & me being Canadian...where's that stereotype come from? Why's Marvel think Canadians are be-muttoned? Sorry weird rant, found it very distracting. Also literally the only complaint I have about this book...cause it's fucking great & it's not like I've ever cared about the Hulk.

@@ion-shivs Okay. Lots of characters have changed their looks since the 70s, especially minor/not A-list ones. Just a weird choice I found distracting (overshadowed his Cheshire smile & manic-ness IMO) in an otherwise brilliant book.
