More like if you fail, you go again until you succeed. I mean winning candidates twice (and losing the wc matches twice) is an achievement in its own and with Ding in poor form, you wouldn't want to rule out Ian as WC, unless a plot twist and Ding like Carlsen also abdicated his title and then maybe we see Nepo a three time WC candidate winner instead of WC.

Nepo is always in beastly mode at candidates but cannot hold his nerves at world Championship 😢
@sunburn74
@sunburn74 29 күн бұрын
Honestly I've followed Nepo's various candidate games and the moves made by the opponents follow the same pattern: completely drawn position with nothing happening, they over-push and bungle things, and then nepo wins. I mean who plays RB3 and traps their own rook? I'd say these games are much more opponents just being stupid and not being happy with a draw than nepo playing brilliantly and crushing things. I will credit nepo for his ability to play quickly but he plays mostly safe, fairly obvious moves. Its just that his opponents decide they need to play overly complex things and over push and then lose.

Vishy saying that he does not see the merit of Nh3. Now why would a former WCC say this?? Has he forgotten already that winning a chess game does not depend on making the absolute best move/s but it depends on making a move or moves that your opponent doesn't understand or at least understands it to the depth that you do. In simple terms, you've prepped this move deeply and your opponent is left to figure it out over the board which figure you a big advantage especially on the clock while he burns minutes calculating and you already know the possible replies.

Surely rb3 was never good? I mean yeah against weaker opponents when it finally gets out there's counter play but in candidates your just trapped a major piece during the middle game

Strong game from Nepo helped along by some bad moves from Vidit I don’t think many people felt Nepo was a favorite to win this years candidate but here he is leading a quarter way through

From what I have seen so far, instead of abasov, pragg and vidit, I would prefer abdusatrov, dubov and anyone else instead of these 3. Literally every was surprised that he didn't capture the pawn. Nepo changed 10 faces when he saw that. Very cheap play.

@@agpaok0704 yes, I would prefer Kasparov, Karpov, Vishy over abdusatrov, dubov and anyone else. But sadly they didn't qualify.

@@agpaok0704 I get your sentiment probably because Dubov, Artimiev, Abdusattarov are kind of players that bloom and thrive in pressure situations but sadly they didn't make it through qualifications. I mean we would literally all want Magnus too in this candidates but sadly he's not here either.
