There are lots of ways to learn music. I don't think you have shown an evidence that only formal music education provides these benefits. A person who has genuine interest can learn on their own or with others as a hobby. I question the benefit for those who are not interested. Lots of the influential musicians never had a music degree.

I'm not sure where in the world you are, but in Scotland students have music as a subject in the first 2 years of high school and it can be continued or dropped beyond that point. I think especially for kids who aren't exposed to it at a young age it is important and has a lot to offer developmentally.

@@Billy97ify I'm saying that a formal music education would grant exposure to people who's parents, upbringing, surroundings, etc hadn't given them much insentive to explore it before. Also I don't think that the video was saying that ONLY a formal education grants the benefits but that it teaches so many core skills that it is a missed opportunity for schools not to include it at least at early stages like I mentioned.
