Examined are the work of artists like The Merry Blackbirds, Dolly Rathebe, Dorothy Masuka, Alfed Herbert, the Manhattan Boys and Thoko Thomo. While racial tensions simmered and segregation prevailed, the voice of African musical culture - as embodied in the Jazz and Variety shows of 1950s Durban - grew in strength, and retained its power as a tool to inspire and uplift.

what fails? stay there with your shit stereo types not to me as an african trying to compare zimbabwe with south africa and not mentioning zimbabwe has been santioned till this day 2018 and still manage to become the worlds leading tobaco exporters under sanctions. the west knows very well how africans are with agriculture thats why they are very scared especially to have south africa break out the agricultural world with exports of grapes wines...etc between don't forget that have of the food you eat tea or coffee you drink is bieng imported from africa and 90% of the coco you eat chocolate is from africa

all their clothes, their voices, the music itself, their combed hair, the language they were using to sing were not native. what is your point? another blinkered stupid view of africans incapable of inventing anything, as if you will acknowledge those inventions .
