Yes. I love giving and helping because it makes me feel good, like this is why we are here, to help, love and support each other. Which maybe, now that I think about it, doesn't exactly qualify as "selflessly." I certainly don't seek a response so maybe my actions do qualify as "selfless."

I have done some type of volunteer work for 85-90% of my life. Money wise- at the last school I taught at, I contributed a lot of money. Now, I am tutoring 2 teens in Spanish 2 hours Sunday evenings for free. I began volunteer work when I was 14 and now I am 71 years old!!! I feel this is the right way to live! Elizabeth Goodrich, TX

I love you, Chris for what you’re doing! You’ve always helped others but now you’re helping them in a way that is unbelievable. I walk every day and listen to your podcast. I go to 12 step meetings all the time and help others to motivate them and to motivate myself. The way you speak and the way you come across when you speak is unbelievable. People want to listen to you because you speak the truth and you are using your life and the things that you are confronted with every day as a lesson to help us. Everybody needs to listen! You’re totally awesome in my eyes, We have to listen to what you say, but also practice it every day. All these things that you’re teaching us we have to be applied in our lives in order for us to be the example for somebody else, and that’s what you’re doing! Remember that it only works if you work it!!! that’s that is one of our many beautiful sayings in AA❤

This is great! My third son has autism, and from the moment he was diagnosed, I have coordinated , prepared, done everything for him… And now he’s 14 and thriving! So yesterday I got caught up in my need for him to say thank you. But in reality, everything I’ve done for him has been out of love, and actually contributed to his success and his growth and yes, that is truly enough❤

I like this commentary regarding the idea of thanks for what you do. I get your point entirely. I'm a chronic give until it hurts type of person, and for a long time that was most true when I'd do something for someone, and if no thanks or recognition would come of it, I'd remember that and continue my effort looking for recognition, either by piling-on the "gifts" so to speak, or looking for the opportunity to do the same thing over and over until I was forced to stop for some reason. Well, I discovered the process of self-recognition, the idea of I am who I am, and I take great personal joy in being a giver. Having that personal recognition allowed me to forget about the external need for specific gratification. That is to say, do it - whatever that "it" is - without requirement, external recognition, or reward, because I do all of those things for myself already! Simple as that.

Oh I’m sure Chris. . .you’re not worse than my friend’s husband who takes her to the movies on her birthday to watch what he wants, and buys new tech that he knows she’s not into and later uses it. She ‘selflessly’ thanks him and still appreciates his ‘gifts’😂

Take $10 or $20 and place it in a zip lock baggie with a nice note wishing the finder a nice day or happy holidays, and leave it on a park bench, bus stop, or alleyway. It is a great way to put some kindness back into our world. Have a great day, Chris and everyone. 😎🌻

Ok Chris, I don’t know how many times I can say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for this walk-n-talk specially!!! OMG HOT ❣️❣️🔥😍🔥😍🔥! I Believe in giving, one of my love languages is giving. I like giving in many forms too ; not only momentary . As long as your motives for giving are pure then that there’s nothing wrong with thanking that person and that person or persons showing/giving appreciation to the giver is just as important. it shows that you understand and appreciate the act, that you didn’t have to do it, it’s not something that’s common or your supposed to do or have to do; it’s simply because. or because you like/love and/or appreciate that person and us super grateful for them! That’s respect, it should be the same for parents, parenting is a thankless 24/7 job but your kid (s) should show love & appreciate for their parents/caregivers IF they’re deserving of it. (some of them ain’t; they’re a piece of ish & done deserve a thank you, maybe respect 🤔)

I used to a heroin addict and I still worked but would spend all my xtra money on it!! ( I still paid all my bills but barely ate..lol Well one day I noticed a colony of feral cats that looked starved...it broke my heart... I could not not do something.. So when I got paid on that Friday I spent half of my money left over that would have gone to drugs, went to buy food for those cats!it felt amazing to see how happy and appreciated those cats were to eat!! It was a high!!! I was addicted so over the course of the next 3 months I slowly started taking more and more out of my "drug money"and spent it on the cats! I got clean with a new addiction! A healthier one and one that makes me feel better even!!!i That was 4 years ago and I have never felt better!! I've gotten them all spayed neutered and vaccinated and work for a local cat charity and trying now to open my own feral cat sanctuary that will be on 10+ acres of natural landscape surrounded by a cat fence and feeding areas throughout..I will welcome any colony that is in danger or struggling where they currently are..to come and live happily and safely forever !!

Looks like I’m going to be in the minority here…I don’t give with the expectation of a return….but I was brought up in a home where it was polite to acknowledge that someone took the time to think of me and to pick out a gift they thought I might like, and that the least I can do is give them a thank you…and yes, I’d like the same acknowledgment…just a simple thank you.
