Super helpful video. What's your opinion on wider angle beams such as 160°? You lose brightness but any other things to consider?
@MatthiasLebo10 ай бұрын
Thanks. Glad it was useful. Wider beams are oftentimes not as consistent when it comes to distribution of light from the center all the way to the outer edge. If the light distribution is even though, there is nothing that speaks against a wider beam.

Hello. I’m hoping that you can help. Any ideas of a lights I can use for glass bottom boat for reef fluorescence viewing from boat? The reef is average 3-4m depth. The clarity of the water is excellent . The lights can be attached to some apparatus that can be fastened to the boat and pivoted overboard. Thank you so much in advance.

Great video thanks. I use 2x v6k Pro and fully recommend them but I do not yet have blue ambient filters. I'd love to see a video on this subject alone. Also how do the ambient filters work if you DON'T use a red filter? My current camera (sony a6000) isn't great in low light so I don't want to loose too many stops of light by adding too many filters thanks
@MatthiasLebo5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment Elaine and good to meet a fellow v6k user. 😉 We will definitely follow up with an episode on blue filters soon. It seems to be a very hot topic at the moment. By the way, you can use the blue filters without having a red filter on your lens without problems. Works just fine and does what it is supposed to do. But as you say, it does decrease the intensity of your v6k's. But we'll talk about all that in an upcoming episode. 😉

Will Scubalamp release a strobe function on something a bit bigger than the P53, maybe on a V4k, for us amateurs who travel and take both video and still photography?
@MatthiasLebo5 жыл бұрын
Very good question, thank you. I'll pass it on to Scubalamp and will let you know what the answer is.
@MatthiasLebo5 жыл бұрын
Here is the answer from Scubalamp regarding your question with the strobe function: "Yeah, we will have the new model, P63 with 6000lumens, 4*21700battery. may come out next Janurary. a little stronger than P53. but to be honest, COB(LED) strobe function can't be as strong as real strobe. as their LED working way is different, LED is like running race, from 1-100 meters, need time. Tube light in strobe is like pouring water, so P53&P63 strobe function is more suitable for marco shooting, but for wide angle, have to choose strobe. "

Great video 👍 just a quick question: I'm thinking of two underwater lights, the Scubalamp Supe V6K Pro or the Archon WM66, can't decide which one I should buy. What would u say which one is the better one? 🤔 Cheers
@MatthiasLebo5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your message. That's not an easy question to answer in specifically because I don't know the Archon WM66 and have never used it myself. Just looking at the specs, it looks like the V6K is slightly better when it comes to the CRI (Color rendering index) and also has a slightly longer burn time on full power (Pro version). The only thing I can say for sure is that the V6K is a fantastic underwater video light. If it's not urgent and you can wait a few weeks before ordering your light, consider waiting for the new V7K from Scubalamp. I've just visited them at the BOOT show in Düsseldorf and they have a few new innovations integrated into the new version. I should be getting my hands on a pair of them within the next few weeks to test and review here on this channel.

@@MatthiasLebo Thx for your response. Finally, I bought two lights of the "X-LIGHT M15000 Lumen CRI96". They use the same technology like Keldan, they are really awesome and for the price of 700 euros unbeatable 👍.

Great video! I just bought 2 V6 v2 lights with two spare batteries. I like them more than V6 pro since they are smaller and more compact. It gives you 30 min for 12,000 lum. I think they are the best bang for your buck. They seem well made. I have read some great reviews on them by people who have been using them for a year. I will be using them for my upcoming dive trip. Matthias, It will be really nice if you can put together a video on blue or ambient filters as to when and how to use them. Thanks.

@@MatthiasLebo That would be great as I don’t think it is very clear to everyone how to use them specially for GoPro users like me where manual white balance is not easy. I bought two ambient filters from Scubalamp when I order my V6 lights that I need to try and see how it will work with my GoPro 10.

Great videos and have been watching a few rounds repeatedly, I am interested to understand the rational and when to use the blue filter. Also trying to get from your opinion on carrying big size batteries over hand carry, what are the preparation or steps needed to be done with over different countries airport?
@MatthiasLebo2 жыл бұрын
Blue filters are used in combination with red filters on our lenses so that you can get nicely balanced colors in the foreground and the background at the same time. And you only use them on wide angle shots where your lights are not reaching everything that is in the frame. When it comes to carrying batteries for your lights, there is nothing really that you should consider other than having the batteries in your hand luggage and mentioning it to the security personnel when going through the checks. I've never had any issues in any country I've traveled to.

If you were only filming with a GoPro or maybe a TG-6 in the Caribbean would the V4K be enough?
@MatthiasLebo3 жыл бұрын
Sure, the V4K is a powerful little video light. Just keep in mind that if you film in shallow water where there is a lot of ambient light, your artificial light needs to be stronger than in a dark environment to be able to "fight" the bright ambient light. A V4K is going to be great for macro and mid-shots, regardless of what camera you're using. For wide angle shots it can work but might be a little weak depending on the situation you're filming in. Hope this helps?
Can the blue ambient light filters only be used in one model or is it possible to adapt it to other models?
@MatthiasLebo4 жыл бұрын
Andrés de Francisco the v4k and V6K both use the same filter. The v9k and the V12K use another model of blue filter because their head is much bigger.

Hey Ricky, Just talked to the Scubalamp guys at BOOT show in Düsseldorf. There is no ambient light filter for the P53 and they are not planning on making one either. They only make them for their dedicated video lights, not for hybrid solutions. Sorry mate.

How much is too much light? I'd like to focus on macro video, but would also like nice coloring for the occasional large animal, diver, seascape etc. So I need something I can also dial down for supermacro. (I'm buying the Oly TG-6) And I'm not that into the black background/snoot shots. I like realistic videos that show viewers the entire scene with vivid colors. I was thinking of 10-15k lumen...?
@MatthiasLebo2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question Trena. 10K is probably all you'll need if macro is your main thing. And it's also going to be enough to give you some extra light on your wide angle shots. Just don't expect to be able to shoot against the sun. Keep your positioning in mind and the sun behind you.

This feels a little like a advert for scubalamp.. and the nost important thing is price. Which was not discussed and also the website does not display it unless you ask for an inquiry.. Can you tell me more on that?
@MatthiasLebo3 жыл бұрын
The thing is that Scubslamp doesn't put the focus on selling their products directly through their website but much rather through their various dealers worldwide. So the individual dealer will have the prices on their website like my dealer here in Switzerland: uw-foto.ch/en/2429/1025/scubalamp-supe-v6k-pro-underwater-video-light-black It might sound like an advert for scubalamp because they were so kind to lend us their products so we could actually produce this video. But they didn't pay us anything for it. And I didn't talk about pricing because prices can change over time. I might have stated a rough range of price, but I don't think that price is the most important and determining factor when getting an uw video light. Hope this clarifies a bit?

@MatthiasLebo4 жыл бұрын
I see your point, which is valid. I think it depends on how you look at it. I think you do have 12000 Lumen with you wenn you take two 6000 Lumen lights on a dive. But I agree, that they won't have the same maximum power as a single 12000 Lumen light. On the other side, I'll have a much wider area that the lights are going to cover and lighten up. Hope this makes sense to you and I totally see your point.
